THE weather for once played its part in ensuring a successful week for the KBA men’s and women’s sevens league tournament which heralds the start of the new season for KBA . For the fourth year in a row, the men’s team from AMBC claimed top spot.
Results: Men. First – John Chamier, Allan Grey, Mike Harvey, Richard von Waltsleven, Bob Elliot, Mike Mordant and Eddie Acheson (AMBC). Second – Chris Faber, Mike Gamble, Phillip Lotter, Richard Moore, Neels Boshoff, Hans Wijtman and Alfred Shusha (Southbroom). Third – Trevor Harris, Tickey Nel, Willie Knott, Peter Ford, Brian Sapsford, Luke Pohl and Kevin Mullen (The Bell) . Fourth – Brian Cole-Cook, Steve Rennie, Jimmy McAllister, John Kepler, Aubrey Hood, Glen Allen and Andreas van der Linde (Banners Rest).
In the women’s tournament Margate Bowling Club members really didn’t know who to cheer for in the final as it was Margate against Margate.
Results: Women. First – Leonie Geyer, Vicki de Beer, Eileen Abel, Ann Waugh, Sheena Absolom, Esta Wenzel and Yvonne Bausek (Margate BC ‘C’ team). Second – Ellen Cawker, Pam Cole-Cook, Vi Pells, Barbara Brook, Annette Coomer, Sandy Jeffrey and Georgie McKechnie (Margate BC ‘A’ team). Third – Daphne Sapsford, Barbara Fernihough, Tina Barbour, Mada Lindeque, Margie Randall, Sharolyn Dacey and Angela Moorhouse (The Bell). Fourth -Jenny Rawlins, Colleen Baker, Maureen Jonker, Gill Thiele, Maureen Muller, Marie Coetzer and Anne Payn (PSCC).

RIVERSIDE
THE next sponsored competitions will be Airprof Engineering men’s trips on Wednesday, November 20 and Fruit and Veg City mixed 2-4-2 on Friday, November 29.
Members are advised that the annual prize-giving will now be held on Tuesday, November 19 after tabs. Please bring a plate of snacks.
The social evening will take place on Friday, November 15 when the accumulator prize will be drawn.

HIBBERDENE
IT was a very sad morning last week when members attended the funeral of honorary life member Ann Hoyer. Condolences are extended to her husband Mike, sister, Mary, two sons John and Bruce and their immediate families. Ann will be sadly missed.
Two men’s teams playing in Durban at the Hillary Bowling Club this weekend, representing Hibberdene at the host club’s 75th anniversary celebrations, are wished good luck and a safe journey.
It is anticipated that once the green receives a second cut this week, the greens committee will be better placed to announce when it can be reopened.
PORT SHEPSTONE
JENNY Rawlins, Gilly Thiele, Maureen Jonker, Colleen Baker, Sheenagh Dempster, Maureen Muller, Marie Coetzer and Anne Payn are congratulated on making the play-offs in the KBA sevens competition played last week. At the end of play, the Port Shepstone team finished in fourth place.
VILLAGE
THE next competitions are Wingnuts Plumbing mixed 2-4-2 on Monday 18th, Martin Electronics men’s 2-4-2 on Thursday 21st, Hopden’s Kwikspar women’s 2-4-2 on Monday 25th and Execudec mixed 2-4-2 on Tuesday, November 26. The ‘in house’ Hyundai drawn mixed trips will be held this Saturday 16th.
The Christmas lunch held last Sunday was fantastic. The decor ‘a la Mary Morley’ was sublime and the food ‘a la Patrick and Val Kirkbright’ was great. Well done to all those involved with the catering and the decor. A wonderful day was had by all.
The next bring and braai will be this Friday, November 15.
The Hibiscus Choir will be holding a concert at the club on Friday 22nd.
SOUTHBROOM
CONGRATULATIONS to the men’s team on coming second in the KBA sevens competition. Southbroom was beaten by three-times champions AMBC in the final. Very well done ’boys’.
The Sunday bowler’s/golfer’s day was once again a huge success. A full green and clubhouse ensured a great day was had by all.

Heather Roberts and Malcolm Milne have been awarded honorary life memberships in recognition of all their hard work and dedication to the club. Certificates were handed over to Heather Roberts and Chris Faber for their KBA achievements.

NOMADS LSC
JUST a reminder to fellow Nomads, that the next gathering of ‘the tribe’ will be at the Village of Happiness this Sunday, November 17 at 8.30am. The morning’s play will be followed by a bring and braai.

THE BELL
CONGRATULATIONS to the women’s A side and the men’s team which both took third place in the KBA sevens league.
The draw for the club mixed fours is on the board. The first round starts this Sunday at 9am.
The winners of the club men’s drawn fours competition were Louw Vermeulen, Keiron Dacey, Geoff Barbour and Ron McAlister. The club drawn women’s fours competition was won by Daphne Sapsford, Johannie Theron, Rita Dommett and Charmaine van Deventer.
The next sponsored competition will be the Fruit and Veg City on Tuesday, November 19. Due to the B green not being ready yet, the competition will be a mixed fours this month. Convenor Ron McAlister, catering by Johannie Theron and Maureen Head.

UMTENTWENI
NICO Schophaus and Spike Maritz won the South Coast Herald men’s pairs played on Tuesday, November 5 with a score of 4+13 from runners-up Tom Sempel and Derick Celliers on 4+6. Dennis Graham and Mike Findlay won the session prize on 2+8.
The annual ‘Rhodie’ versus South Africa competition was played last Sunday. Good fun was had by all and a delicious braai lunch followed the game of bowls.
The next event will be the green closing game this Saturday, November !6. It will be the Schooners Restaurant 3-2-1 scoring ‘battle of the sexes’ competition. The men are reminded to supply a plate of eats for the occasion. With the men ‘on duty’ for the day, the women can look forward to a day off. Dress will be whites or club colours.
The green will be closed for approximately one month for annual maintenance. The opening date will be reported in the South Coast Herald as per usual.
BANNERS REST
WELL done to the Banners Rest sevens league team in finishing in fourth place and congratulations to AMBC on winning the event.
The President’s day drawn tournament played on Saturday, November 9 was a tightly contested affair, with Aubrey Hood, Glen Allen, Jaye Russell and Marge Labuschagne emerging as winners. Chris Forward, Janet Venter, Andreas van der Linde and Pat Miller were runners-up and the sportsman prize went to Yvonne Fillis, Gawie Bosman, Arthur Ronaldson and Myra Doubell. The 50/50 board was shared by Dice Graaff and Dave Hume.
The next sponsored competition is the SuperSpar Port Edward mixed trips on Wednesday, November 20 with catering by Brian Camps.

MARGATE BC
THE women have once again brought honours to the club by claiming first and second spots in the KBA sevens league played during last week. The finals were played at MBC on Friday morning and the winners were as follows:
1st – Lenie Geyer, Vicki de Beer, Eileen Abel, Esta Wenzel, Sheena Absalom, Ann Waugh and Yvonne Bausek. 2nd – Ellen Cawker, Pam Cole-Cook, Vi Pells, Barbara Brook, Annette Coomer, Georgie McKechnie and Sandy Jeffrey with Jessica Henderson reserve.
The next sponsored competitions are the Hopden’s Spar women’s 2-4-2 on Friday, November 15 (am), the Mooirivier Brokers’ open 2-4-2 on Friday afternoon with a bring and braai afterwards and the Halfway Toyota open trips on Friday, November 29 (pm) with free boerewors rolls for all players. The annual Jack and Jill’s tournament held on Saturday, November 2 was won by the jubilant Jills. A great afternoon was held with the Jacks providing a splendid spread of eats.
The Warwick Day combined with the club’s 75th Anniversary tournament will be held on Tuesday, November 19 with cash prizes and snacks after the game. This will be a tabs in event and all members are encouraged to attend.
The teams playing in the KBA mixed fours are wished good bowling.
Non bowlers are welcome to join in the ‘mufti’ bowls on Sunday mornings.
The next quiz evening will be held on Wednesday, November 27. Come and enjoy an evening of fun. Members and non members are welcome.
Christine Faber is wished well after her recent stint in hospital. It is also good to see Marie Hibbins up and about after her treatment.
