Pre-Christmas celebrations are in full swing.

KINGFISHER BOWLING ASSOCIATION

THE final of the KBA mixed fours held at Margate Bowling Club was a ‘face off’ between Margate Bowling Club and Port Shepstone Country Club with the top four teams coming from these two clubs.

It was a closely contested final between two well matched teams with the outcome remaining uncertain until the 21st end. Chris Forward’s Margate team and Brian Rawlins’s Port Shepstone team delivered a true final. There can only be one champion and Chris Foward’s team comprising Peet Trollip, Pam Cole-Cook and Vi Pells is congratulated on its fine win.

Port Shepstone’s Jenny Rawlins, Mark and Sharon Bischoff with their skip Brian Rawlins had to settle for second place.

In the play-off for third and fourth place, Dave Barber, Mike and Sandi Jefferies with Rae Barber from Margate had a good win over Jan Snyman (sen), Jan Snyman (jnr), Maureen Jonker and Sue Dempster from Port Shepstone.

PORT EDWARD

MIKE and Sandy Davis with Francien van der Merwe won the mixed triples on November 26 sponsored by Cheyenne Spur. Joe Ashworth, John Keppler and Ann McAllister were runners-up and the session went to Irene Filmer, Sergio Ruperto and David Lindley.

Jokkie and Marianne van Buuren won the pairs compo sponsored by Video Plus DVD on Saturday, November 29. Dave Banks and Denise Brass were runners-up and the session went to Anne Wells and Andreas van der Linde.

Members are urged to take note of the duty roster displayed on the notice board. Also not to forget the staff hamper boxes!

MUNSTER

BARRY Turner, Derick Ott and Penny Hood were the overall winners of the mixed trips sponsored by Dr Theunis Potgieter last Thursday: Louise Dry, Leoni Bloem and Tony Smith were runners-up and the second session went to Dan and Hazel Delaney with David Lindley. The 50/50 board was won by Val Smith.

A hugely successful Christmas dinner was held on Friday. Thanks to Margaret Moakes and her assistants for the decorations and a sumptuous meal. A special thanks to Willie and Ella Smith for donating the sheep on a spit .

RIVERSIDE

EDDIE Louw and Chrissie Chancellor won the Fruit and Veg City mixed 2-4-2 with 4+11 from runners-up Attie Ackerman and Adriana Peens on 4+3. The session winners were Ray Visser and Heather Flyng with 2 +14.

The next sponsored competitions will be Hopden’s Kwikspar open trips on Wednesday, December 11 and Airprof Engineering men’s trips on Wednesday, 18th.

Members are reminded that the club’s annual Christmas lunch and concert will take place on Sunday, December 8 at 12.30 for 1 pm.

VILLAGE

ANNE Riley and Marie Rogers won the Hopden’s Kwikspar women’s 2-4-2 followed by Denise Palframan and Dawn Ingle. Sessions went to Rosemary Esterhuysen and Chrissie Chancellor and to Betty Bolton and Yvonne James. Vicki de Beer won the 50/50.

The Execudec mixed 2-4-2 was won by Ivan and Hazel Hosken followed by Denzil Massyn and Dirkie Pretorius. Sessions were won by Gilly and Keith Thiele and by Bill and Nelia Reed. Ina Malan won the 50/50.

Thanks to everyone who brought snacks for the bring and share after the last bowls for this year. The weather didn’t quite play the game, but a great feast was had by all. Thanks also to those who contributed to the hampers – the list of winners will be in next week’s Herald.

The greens are closed but still come and meet up with your friends. The bar will be open on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays between 4pm and 6pm.

There will be bingo this Friday, December 6 and the next bring and braai will be held on Friday 20th. All welcome.

A blessed Christmas is wished to all and a safe journey to those travelling to visit family and friends.

MARGATE CC

DORA Vosloo, Helen Proctor and Martiens Olivier won the mixed trips sponsored by Shelly Beach SuperSpar with a score of 4+10. Also on 4+10, but runners-up after an aggregate shot countout were Mike Berry and Bill Eccles. The session prize went to Bill Brown, Barry Herbert and Dawn O’Healey. Anne Riley was the lucky winner of the 50/50 draw.

Those attending the Christmas lunch on Saturday are reminded to bring along a gift, costing no more than R50, wrapped in newspaper for ‘needy’ bowlers.

MARGATE BC

TERRANCE Terblanche, Roy Middleton, Ann Cheetham and Delores Marshall won the Uvongo Spar 4-3-2-1 competition on a score of 103-87.

The winners of the Mooirivier Brokers’ open 2-4-2 were Clive Edmundson and Bets Wood on 4+24 followed by Roy Baker and Vicki de Beer on 4+8. Lenie and Rennie Geyer won the first session on 2+9 and the second session went to Hans Hugo and Ann Waugh on 2+11.

The Fruit and Veg City open trips played last Friday was won by Ellen Cawker, Deryck McKechnie and Yvonne Bausek on 4+13. Runners-up on 4+12 were Barbara Brook, Ian Hutton and Trixi Smith and the session went to Athol Robertson, Dieter Scholtz and Maureen Roach on 2+8.

The Boers vs Brits held last Sunday and sponsored by Dave and Helen Slippers was a fantastic success.

The competition was won by Mike Jeffrey, Tony Abel and Wendy Walker followed by Esta Wenzel, Rae Barber and Rene Hannaway. Barbara Brook, Ernie Southward and Anne Hattingh finished third. The ‘tickey end’ went to Rennie Geyer, Esta Wenzel won the best dressed Boer prize and Mike Jeffrey was voted the best dressed Brit.

The next tournaments are the Margate Panel Beaters men’s 2-4-2 this Friday, December 6 and the Fruit and Veg City open trips on Friday, December 13 at 1.30pm. Dress code is mufti. Contact Dave Barber at 083 4503272 if you wish to enter or enter your names on the entry forms on the notice board.

Members are reminded to enter names on the list on the notice board for the Christmas lunch taking place at the clubhouse on Sunday, December 15 and the New Year’s Eve party. There will be a Development Fun Day on Sunday, December 29. All welcome – bring your friends and family for a fun morning of bowls with a bring and braai afterwards.

Non bowlers are welcome to join in the mufti bowls on Sunday mornings.

LOUW Vermeulen, Charmaine van Deventer and Maureen Muller won the Hibiscus Brokers’ mixed trips from runners-up Gerry and Tuppy Cox with Brian Porteous. Third place went to Barbara Fernihough, Stan Penny and Tony Botha.

The next competition will be Venture Inn/Jaxx Restaurant on Tuesday, December 10. Convenor – Steve O’Moore. Catering – Geraldine Celliers and Sharolyn Dacey.

The third round of the club mixed fours takes place this Sunday, December 8.

The list is on the board for the Christmas champagne breakfast on Monday, December 16.

BANNERS REST

JIMMY McAllister and John Keppler won the final competition of the year sponsored by Tops Port Edward last Sunday. Dave Hume and Leigh Warner were runners-up and the session went to Ray Elders and Dice Graaff. The 50/50 board went to Peter Ziervögel.

At the AGM held on Monday, November 25 the committee for the coming year was elected as follows: president – Joe Ashworth; vice-president – Russ Hankey; secretary – Jaye Russell; treasurer – Ann McAllister; competition secretary – Baba du Plessis and committee members Glen Allen and Peter Ziervögel.

Birthday greetings for December go to Ann McAllister on 16th and Jaye Russell on the 23rd.

The club’s Christmas lunch will take place on Tuesday, December 10. Please add names to the list on the notice board.

SOUTHPORT

JANE Massam and Brian Marriott won the in house pairs sponsored by Fruit and Veg City. Molly Williams and Ted Pownell were runners-up and the session prize went to Val Bedecker and Bob Moroney. The 50/50 was won by Nico Schophaus.

The Southport Service Station mixed trips played on Sunday was won by Keiron and Sharolyn Darcy with Charmaine van Deventer. Geoff Kelleher, Jane Massam and Cosmos Gumede followed by Mike King with Richard and Kitty Cochman. The 50/50 was won by Peter Anderson.

The Herald sponsored mixed 2-4-2 will be played on Thursday, December 12 in the morning. Skips are asked to remind their teams.

SOUTHBROOM

FOR the last three competitions of the year there was a great turnout, with full rinks for the Criss Cross Security mixed trips on Thursday won by Malcolm Milne, Kevin Tod and Vivien Date. Chris Faber with Thys and Martie Pringle were runners-up and the sessions went to Heather Roberts, Wynand Bezuidenhout and Mike Lyall as well as Hein Bester with Nelia and Bill Reed. Duncan Biggar won the 50/50.

Great fun was had during the Tiago’s 2-4-2 last Friday, won by Philip Lotter and John Egberink. Lorraine Cook and Wynand Bezuidenhout were second, followed by Heather Roberts and Mike Lyall and Chris Faber and Vivien Date in fourth place.

Thanks to Warwick Wealth there was a good competitive game of trips on Saturday with prizes drawn after the event followed by a delicious braai. Thanks to all the women who brought the tasty salads. .

The last quiz and fish and chips supper evening of the year takes place on Friday, December 13 at 6 for 6.30pm.

The club’s Christmas lunch at a cost of R80 per person will be held on Monday, December 16 at 12 for 12.30pm. For catering purposes please add names to the list on the notice board.

HIBBERDENE

BEZ Bezuidenhout, Pauline Howle and Joey Venter won the Jolly Roger drawn trips last Friday. Norman Aiston, Jill Whitmore and Frances Raymond were runners-up and the session prize went to Malky McManus, Chris Snyman and Helene Oosthuizen.

The SuperSpar nominated mixed trips will be played this Friday, December 6 and the Mooirivier Brokers’ nominated mixed trips on Wednesday, December 11.

Members are reminded to check the list and take note of the scheduled mixed pairs matches.
