Second place for surfer Fergie
Legendary surfer Heather Clark claimed second spot in the Umhlanga contest.
HEATHER ‘Fergie’ Clark from Port Shepstone proved that she is still one of the best surfers in South Africa, when she came second in the women’s event at the Umhlanga Lizzard Nature Valley Surf Fest held at Umhlanga’s main beach last weekend.
Heather scooped R1500 from Nature Valley.
Sarah Baum from Warner Beach won the event and pocketed R2500 cash plus prizes from Nature Valley, Hurricane and Lizzy.
This event kick-started the 2013 Umhlanga Summer Carnival festivities.
It was held in two to three foot contestable waves with slight north-easterly winds. Surfers were able to really turn on their performances and win the many prizes on offer.
Gavin Roberts from Media Marketing for Lizzard was thrilled with the event. “Yet again Umhlanga produced the goods. The weather held out and the waves were fun for the surfers. It was also great that all the surfers had free granola bars and ice cream all weekend – that was a real treat,” said Gavin.
