Pro pounces at PSCC

JESS Verster, the pro (and greenkeeper) at Port Shepstone Country Club teamed up with Kevin Loring to win last Wednesday’s bonus bogey on +14.
In second place were Trevor Green and Charles Mostert on +10.
The Auto Exec monthly mug was played last Saturday.
Ewald Ziervogel was the overall winner on nett 69.
The individual Stableford was won by Darren Ovenstone on 41 points.
Phil Myburgh won the A division on nett 72, as well as the best gross on 79.
Johann van Niekerk continued his good run with another victory, clinching the B division on nett 71.
Howard Frizelle took top honours in the C division with a nett 72.

THE women’s Christmas competition at Margate Country Club was held last week.
The Linda McLauchlin Memorial Trophy for the most birdies this year went to Maureen Ogilvie.
Janet Dowling had the most four-pointers.
The mystery fourball alliance was won by Sandi Johnston, Shannon Gottlieb, Lexley Lewis and Rina Rito on 85 points.
The Wobblers’ alliance last Wednesday was won by Ray Hubbard, Frank Merrill and Andrew Dickerson on 83 points, some distance ahead of Hans Beilhartz, Rob Brien and James Tutt, who had 72 points and counted out Derek Egerton, Dave Morrison and Doug Johnston. The Arthur Tomlinson Floater went to Dieter Jucker, Karl Zurfluh and Louie Kuhn on 57 points.
Gary Smith won last Thursday’s competition on 42 points, two ahead of Chris Nel. Louie Carreira was third on 39 points. Nearest the pin on the 16th, sponsored by Hibiscus Retirement Villages, was won by Heber de Beer.
The business day last Friday, sponsored by Giorgio Express and Margate Pro Shop, saw Theuns Esterhuizen, Christo Esterhuizen, Piet Lombard and Johan Stoltz clean up on 89 points.
In second place were Bob Wagner, Frank Carr, John Pritchard and Guy Yeadon on 88 points, followed by Elize Pretorius, Piet Pretorius, Frank Merrill and Rob McGill on 87 points.
Nearest the pins, sponsored by Blue Lagoon, went to Jason Ackerman (2nd) and Willie Vorster (16th).
Saturday’s monthly medal division winners were Patrick Mavundla (A) on nett 70, Johan Wentzel (B) on nett 66 and Piet Lombard (C) on nett 69.
The respective runners-up were Wonder Nxumalo, Keith Duncalf and Dawie de Villiers.

THE winners of the men’s alliance at Southbroom Golf Club last Saturday were Brian Murray, Richie Lamb, Don Osbourn and Joe Carolan on 98 points.
They counted out Coert Brits, Tony Holness, Ken Alford and Malcolm Moorley. In third place on 96 points were Joe Hartmann, Norman Whittemore, Phil Verwey and Peter Brandsma.
The women’s competition was won by Ruth Mosburger, Michelle Davies, Eileen Neilson and Jeanne Powell on 86 points, on a countout from Lan Yeadon, Maeve Mullane, Barbara Cannon and Jean Purtell.
Barclay Shearer produced a sensational 50 points in last Wednesday’s individual Stableford, to win by six points from Rob Meydell. Barclay shot an 85 gross and his handicap has duly been trimmed to shots to 25. Dudley Simmonds, Jannie Ackerman and Olliver Ransome all had 41 points Karen Bridgeford won the women’s comp on 41 points, edging out Ann Simmonds and Mari Fielden on 40 points. Margi Bonini and Janet Humphrey had 38 points.
