HIBBERDENE

WINNERS of the SuperSpar nominated mixed trips played last Friday were Bez Bezuidenhout, Cas Whiteman and Cheryl Knight.

Second prize went to Arthur and Miriam Seager, with John Hoyer.

Session prize was won by Dirk and Ann Matthysen, with Eddie Milne. Thanks to SuperSpar for the sponsorships.

The nominated mixed trips will be held this Friday, January 10 in the afternoon.

The lists are on the board for names.

It was good to see the Whiteman family visiting from Witbank for the holidays.

The Mett family returned to the UK on New Year’s Day.

Hope that they managed to land safely with all the floods there.

Sympathy is extended to Fay Patterson on the death of her sister.

THE technical officials’ standing committee is planning a ‘marker’s course’ early in February. Clubs with interested bowlers must please contact Bernie or Esta so they can arrange dates and venues.

WINNERS of the Margate Panelbeaters men’s 2-4-2 played last Friday were: Trevor Heywood and Tony Simmonds on 4+17.

Runners-up were Dieter Scholz and John Sutton on 4+9. First session went to Roy Middleton and Anton Roussoux on 2+11 and second session to Cedric Glanfield and John Richards on 2+12.

Winners of the ‘Free Drinks Tabs In Sets’ last Saturday were Bob Smith, Ron Canning, Anne Hattingh and Maureen Roach. An enjoyable afternoon was had by all.

The inaugural ‘MBC Challenge’ will be held at the club on Saturday, January 18 and Sunday, January 19 and promises to be a very challenging and exciting weekend. A green will be available for tabs in on these days.

The next sponsored tournament is the Halfway Toyota open trips to be played this Friday, January 10 starting at 1.30pm. There will be free boerewors rolls for all players.

This will be followed by the Manaba Kwikspar women’s 2-4-2 to be played on Friday, January 17. Contact Ellen Cawker at 082 8019339 or Dave Barber at 083 4503272 if you wish to enter or enter your names on the entry form on the notice board. Visitors welcome to enter teams.

TWILIGHT bowls will be played this Friday, January 10 at 3pm for 3.30pm, followed by a bring and braai.

SOUTHBROOM

WELL done to Neels Boshoff, Hans Wijtman, Trebla Lansdell and Renee Jover on winning the Mariner’s Restaurant mixed fours competition on a very hot Thursday last week.

Runners-up were Ina Malan, Dirkie Pretorius, Carl Volker and Corrie Malan. Session winners were Paul Botes, Ronnie Bottany, Mike Lyall and Vivien Date as well as Mike Gamble, Graham Fisher, Steve Evans and Julia Moorley.

The 50/50 board went to Julia Moorley.

The next competition will be the Fish on the Pond men’s trips on Tuesday, January 21.

Do not forget the first quiz of the year on Friday, January 10 at 6pm for 6.30pm. The quizmaster is Beryl Lakin.

Bar duty: January 6-12 – Graham Fisher; January 13 to 19 – Wynand Bezuidenhout.

THERE will be a fun bowls morning on Sunday, January 12, starting at 10am.

All are welcome to come along and have some fun, especially non-bowlers.

THE next competition will be the Captain’s Anchor mixed fours this Friday, January 10. The convener is Tony Olivant, catering by Patti Mullen and Penny Hartmann.

The Venture Inn/Jaxx men’s trips will be played on Tuesday, January 14. Convener is Steve O’Moore, catering by Sharolyn Dacey and Geraldine Celliers.

Please note that the Hollard Insurance Brokers’ mixed fours on January 18 has been cancelled.

Duties: tabs – Denise Nel and Alan Mandy, bar – Willy Knott, umpire – Michelle Vermeulen.

UMTENTWENI

THE green reopened on a sombre note last Saturday due to the death of dear friend and fellow bowler Joe Herron, who died on January 1 at 5pm.

Club members extended their deepest sympathy and condolences to Joe’s wife, Olga. In accordance with Joe’s wishes there will be no funeral or memorial service.

The next competition will be the John Dory’s ‘in house’ mixed 2-4-2 today (Thursday, January 9).

Please note that this competition was scheduled for Friday, January 10 but due to a special general meeting on Friday afternoon it was moved to Thursday.

The Schooners in-house mixed trips is on Saturday, January 11 and the J Cee Sounds mixed 2-4-2 on Monday, January 13.

Due to the intense heat experienced at this time of year, play will start later in the afternoon.

Therefore, as from Wednesday, January 8, social bowls will be played at 3pm, with tabs to be in by 2.45pm. This only applies to social bowls, sponsored game tab and starting times remain as is.

VILLAGE

SINCERE condolences are sent to Don Fowler and his family and friends on the death of Val while visiting family in Cape Town.

The club plans to open the greens this Saturday, January 11. Don’t forget tabs in before 1.30pm latest.

The new season’s KBA 300 Club lists are out – so please bring your R60 subscriptions as soon as possible as the first draw is next week.’

The next sponsored competitions at the club are the Hibiscus Retirement Villages’ men’s trips on Tuesday, January 14 and the Martins Electronics mixed 2-4-2 on Thursday, January 16.

This will be followed by the Wingnuts Plumbing mixed 2-4-2 on Monday, January 20 and the Execudec mixed 2-4-2 on Tuesday, January 28.
