Falcons win all
The volleyball courts are now available for all teams ready to start pre-season training.
THE Port Shepstone Volleyball Association (PSVA) hosted its annual awards banquet recently.
The function was used as a platform to present the trophies won at the various knockout cups and the league. Members of the various teams, as well as their families, were in attendance.
President of the PSVA, Iks Naicker thanked the affiliated teams for their participation during the year and promised that 2014 was going to be a more exciting year with the prospect of more tournaments.
He also mentioned that the upgrade to the volleyball courts was almost complete, with the fencing, doors, gates and change room and toilet facilities already completed. He hoped that this upgrade would encourage more teams and players to take part in the sport.
The guest speaker for the evening was Mark (Tubby) Naidoo, a former official of the PSVA and former teacher at Marburg Secondary.
Mr Naidoo, who currently resides in New Zealand, reminisced about the volleyball days of yesteryear and shared some anecdotes with the audience.
He was impressed with the organisation of the (PSVA) executive committee and commended it on its achievements during the year. He stated that on his next visit to South Africa, he hopes to see more teams taking part.
The major winner for the evening was Falcons VC. The team scooped the George Raman Knockout Cup, the PSVA Knockout Cup as well as the prestigious Tiago’s Premier League.
City Covenant players (CCP) finished runners-up in all the competitions during the year, with Vedenta VC taking third place in the league.
The volleyball courts are now available for all teams ready to start pre-season training. The 2014 season will start in February and all clubs are urged to register their teams and players as soon as the registration window opens.
