Express start for business day winners
THE Margate Country Club January business day, sponsored by Giorgio Express and Margate Pro Shop, saw all four to count on the par threes.
In the end, it was won on 108 points by Richard Plaskitt, Norman Bridger, Piet Ludick and Barry Oehme on 108 points.
Five points adrift were Mike Lee, Rob Weyer, Wayne Minnaar and Graeme Massam, with third place going to Jim Finn, Bruce Matthew, Derrik Matthew and Trevor Turnbull-Jackson.
In fourth place on 101 points were Elise Pretorius, Piet Pretorius, Rod O’ Farrell and Frank Merrill,
counting out Alan Davies, Doug Johnston, Keith Duncalf and Derek Egerton.
Nearest the pins were Freddie Boshoff (2nd) and Ernest Kemm (16th).
Meanwhile, Derek Young, Freddie Boshoff and Ken Norval won the Wednesday Wobblers’ Alliance last week.
They carded 81 points to edge out Tony Peace, David Botha and Nico van Vuuren, who had 80 points.
The Arthur Tomlinson floater went to Otto Mutschler, Ken Oakley and Frank Merrill on 74 points.
The pro shop comp last Thursday was won by Mike Lee and Lexley Lewis on 49 points, two ahead of Chris Nel and Fanie Terblanche, as well as I Brandswer and A Brandswer.
Nearest the pin on the 16th, sponsored by Hibiscus Retirement Villages, was Johan Meintjies.
Saturday’s comp was won by Theuns Esterhuizen and Piet Lombard on 76 points, by one from Ken Ashington and Dawie de Villiers, as well as Jim Finn and Alan Davies.

San Lameer has a giving heart

A TOTAL of R41 205 was raised for South Coast Hospice by San Lameer Country Club. The cheque was
handed over at the President’s Cup prize-giving, held on December 26, and so it came as a nice Christmas present for hospice.
Current San Lameer CC president Andries Brink had the honour of handing over the cheque to South Coast Hospice CEO, Diane van Dyk. She was thrilled with the donation and thanked the presidents, both current and past.
She stated that hospice was grateful for the support it had received from San Lameer CC over the years.”With
that help we have been able to touch more than a 1000 people’s lives inthe last year alone,” she said, thanking all concerned for having a giving heart.
Golf director Meyer du Toit said the club was delighted to be able to support such a worthwhile cause.
The work that is done and the care that is given by the South Coast Hospice is amazing and I am glad we are able to be in a position to support what it does,” he said.

Golf classic is a grand slam

EVERY year the Grand Slam Classic, played at Port Shepstone Country Club, raises funds for the local SPCA.
Last year it was played in late December and won by Justin Hinchliff, who teamed up with Peter Lavoipierre and his two sons, Matthew and Michael.
Some R40 000 was raised by the golfers and sponsors who dug deep into their pockets.
The Grand Slam Classic has been running for 14 years under the guidance of Ken Robinson, managing director and founder of Leisure Brands.
Leisure Brands is an importer and distributor of premium golf and leisure clothing, including brand names such as Grand Slam, Ping, Tommy Hilfiger Golf, Jack Nicklaus Collection and Callaway Golf.
Each year, the event is well attended and many locals and holidaymakers look forward to the restful pace of play, fun ambience and wonderful prizes.
Business day this Friday
Meanwhile, Port Shepstone Country Club’s first business day for the year will be played this Friday, January 10. To book, phone the club at 039 6950140.
Last Saturday’s comp was won on the superb score of +13 by Christo Jansen van Vuuren and Freek Stander, who is better known for his fishing skills.
Leon Reeders and Anne Baldrey scored +11 and counted out Tony Fairbairn and Dick Mol on +11.
Gerhard Labuschagne and Rob Piers were next on +10, counting out Steve McCarroll and Ian Stewart.

THE New Year’s Day alliance was won by Doug Butcher, Dave Mutch, Barclay Shearer and Graham Taylor on 96 points.
They were followed on 95 points by Clive Miller, Alister Miller, Jim Cook
and Norman Jeffery, Gus Bonini, Pete Cameron, Roel Germs and Art Germs,
as well as Hjelmar Meyer (who popped in two two-clubs), Hans Rose,
Richard Derman and Nic Sistermans.
The women’s comp was won by Irene Schanda, Shelley Myers, Joy Crutchfield and Julie Walker on 94 points.
They counted out Geraldine Treherne, Meryl Chambers, Jeanette Peyios and ‘ghost’ Irene Schanda.
Saturday’s comp was won by Tony Westoby and Helmut Maidl on 48 points. They edged out Les Civin, who had two two-clubs, and his son Andrew, as well as John Scott and Mike Jacquet on 47 points.
In fourth place were Geoff Skelton and Paul Wareham on 46 points, on a countout.
The women’s competition saw Liz Shaw and Sharon Turnbull-Jackson clean up on 50 points, two ahead of three pairs on 48 points, namely Margi Bonini and Lan Yeadon, Geraldine Treherne and Jean Purtell, and Julie Walker
and Geraldine Treherne (pivot).
