Sanjay Singh on song at Sheppie

THE first business day for the year at Port Shepstone Country Club was played last Friday and sponsored by Abingdon Road Spar.
Winning the comp on 97 points were Sanjay Singh, Jonathan Naidoo, Michael Pillay and Benny Pillay.
It’s been a good week for Sanjay. Recently he teamed up with Gareth Olivant to win the President’s Cup (Shield), beating Ganes Munsami and Justin Pillay in the final.
In second place at the business day were John Beekman, Steve McCarroll, Jess Verster and Leon Bunge on 90 points.
In third spot on 86 points were Murray Ross, Howard Frizelle, Phil Myburgh and Dave Mee.
The previous Wednesday’s competition was won by Charles Mostert on 40 points, with Kevin Loring next on 36 points. Phil Myburgh was third on 35 points.
Saturday’s comp saw Christo van Vuuren and Gary Vogt dominate with a sensational 54 points.
In second place were Niel Retief and Jaco Buitendag on 51 points, followed by Beryl Olden and Louis Klopper on 48 points. Phil Myburgh and Bevis Fairbrother were next on 47 points.
It’s monthly mug time this coming Saturday.

Patrick Mavundla wins Captain’s Putter

PATRICK Mavundla won the 2013 Captain’s Putter at Margate Country Club last Saturday. To qualify, you had to have won a monthly medal during the year.
However, the lowest score on the day was provided by Ronnie Mtshaka, who scorched around in five under par 66. However, he wasn’t part of the Captain’s Putter.
“I had seven birdies and one eagle and only beat Patrick by one shot. He shot 69 off a five,” said Ronnie. He duly won the January monthly medal and so will qualify for next year’s final.
The B division was won by Arthur Ehlert on nett 66, by one from Mike Lee. Hans Beilhartz won the C division on nett 66, by three from Ken Ashington.
Shannon Gottlieb won the women’s comp last Tuesday, carding 40 points to win by three from Anita Scheepers. Lesley Erasmus was third on 36 points.
The Wobblers’ game last Wednesday was a two to count alliance and won by Eddie Scheepers, Dave Boyd and Otto Mutschler on 83 points, on a count out from Tony Peace, Rod O’Farrell and Rob Brien.
The Arthur Tomlinson floater went to Frank Stephens, Dave Parsons and John Barker on 70 points.
Thursday’s pro shop comp saw Piet Ludick clean up on 40 points, one ahead of Dave Jenkinson and Johan Wentzel. In fourth spot was Ronnie Mtshaka on 37 points.
Nearest the pin on the 16th, sponsored by Hibiscus Retirement Villages, was Johan Wentzel.
Nearest the pin on the 11th, sponsored by Margate Pro Shop, was Shannon Gottlieb.
The women’s medal was won by Hilary Hendry on nett 68, with Anita Scheepers next on nett 69. Maureen Ogilvie was third on nett 71.

Steiner and co clean up

THE competition at Southbroom Golf Club last Saturday was won by Philip Knoessel, Karl Steiner, Dieter Steiner and Heins Seiser on 109 points.
In second place were Malcolm Greenland, (who had two two-clubs), Roel Germs, Art Germs and George Haswell on 106 points.
Third spot was taken on 103 points by Stuart Janvier, John Lison, Karl Mosburger and Gerald Myers.
The women’s comp saw Karin Asbock, Mary Carolan, Christa Sistermans and Joy Crutchfield clean up on 95 points. Three adrift were Helen Strong, Margi Bonini, Jan Germs and Judy Hofman.
In third place on 91 points were Augustine D’Ewes, Lorna Johnson, Rene Matthew and Candida Amm, on a count out from Liz Shaw, Lee Mutch, Sharon Turnbull-Jackson and Barbara Cannon.
The previous Wednesday’s comp saw Jannie Ackerman and Davie Rynners take first prize on 50 points, three ahead of Mike and Matt Holden. In third place on 46 points were Wilfrid Bessell and Erwin Schanda.
Liz Shaw and Margi Bonini won the women’s comp on 46 points. In a tie for second on 44 points were Geraldine Treherne and Mari Fielden, as well as Mary Carolan and Karin Asbock.
