THE inaugural Margate Bowling Club pairs’ challenge, sponsored by Dieter and Ula Scholz, was a huge success and thoroughly enjoyed by all who participated last weekend. Twelve women and men skips and twelve women and men front rank players had to invite partners from other clubs to play in this tournament (total of 24 teams). Top class bowls was experienced and the winners were as follows: Women 1 Ronita Kalil (MBC) and Johannie Theron (The Bell); 2 Jessica Henderson (MBC) and Brenda Smith (Riverside); 3 Dora Vosloo (MCC) and Pam Cole-Cook (MBC); Men 1 Barry Delvin (PSCC) and Danny McCarthy (MBC); 2 Louw Vermeulen (The Bell) and Mike Jeffries (MBC); 3 Eddie Fann (PSCC) and Peet Trollip (MBC). All those involved over the weekend are thanked for their hard work.
Winners of the Manaba Kwikspar women’s 2-4-2 played last Friday were Sheena Absalom and Vicki de Beer on 4+22. Runners-up were Dora Vosloo and Helen Proctor on 4+16. The session prize wen to Hazel Hosken and Dawn Oehley on 2+16.
The next sponsored tournament is the Mooirivier Brokers’ open 2-4-2 to be played tomorrow (Friday) at 1.30pm. Contact Ellen Cawker at 082 8019339 if you wish to enter or enter your names on the entry form on the notice board. Visitors welcome to enter teams.

Winners of the President’s Team Fund-raising Day held at MBC on Wednesday last week were Gill Thiele, Colleen Baker, Sheena Dempster and Anne Payne. In second place were John Chamier, Moira Humphrey and Mike and Maureen Lancaster, followed by Rennie Geyer, Ron Canning, John Richards and Brian Smalburger.
Coaching is available every Saturday morning at 9am, the only requirement is that flat soled shoes are worn. Ron Canning at 039 312 5032 or Eileen Abel at 039 312 2702 can be contacted for further information.

STEVE O’Moore and Sharolyn Dacey won the recent J Cee Sounds mixed 2-4-2 with a score of 4+32 from runners-up Dennis Graham and Cynthia Korb on 4+16. The session prize was won by Tony Korb and Jenny Graham on 2+3.
Eric Grierson, Derick and Geraldine Celliers with Isabel Prenger won the John Dory’s mixed fours last Friday with a score of 4+15 from runners-up Peter Brewer, Louis Marx, Daphne Hounsell and Nellie Davies with 4+11. The session prize was won by Steve Doran, Tony and Cynthia Korb with Astrid Jackson on 2+10.
The next event is the Abingdon Road Spar women’s 2-4-2 today (Thursday).

BANNERS REST
RE-OPENING of the green will take place at tabs in on Wednesday, January 29 at 2pm.
There are spot prizes to be won, and boerie rolls afterwards. All welcome.
The first sponsored competition of the new season is the GP Security mixed pairs on Friday, January 31 with catering by Glen Allen, followed by the Tops Port Edward men’s pairs on Sunday, February 2, with catering by Sheila Hankey and Olive Ashworth.
Note that the closing date for KBA all singles entries is January 27.

HIBBERDENE
IN the midweek mixed nominated trips Keith Mills, Hana Svoboda and Louise Shone claimed first prize, with Bez Bezuidenhout, Jan Venter and Joey Venter in second place.
Session prize was awarded to Felicity van Rensburg, Jan Snyman and Maureen Jonker. Special thanks go to Sofia Conje of Mooirivier Brokers.
The usual drawn mixed trips on Fridays was won by Jan Venter, Tabie Jonker and Maureen Vermaak with Bez Bezuidenhout, Joey Venter and Louise Shone in second place.
Session prize was won by Norman Aiston, Chris Snyman and Des Niemandt. A big thanks to Wimpy Hibberdene for sponsoring once again.
The next competition is the mixed drawn trips, sponsored by the Jolly Roger, this Friday.

MARGATE CC
THE green proved to be in fantastic condition for the Engel & Volkers Property Shop men’s fours last Friday morning.
This was the first of 10 monthly events which is going to see the teams accumulating points on a ladder.
The winners this month were Barry Delvin, Ken Tonge, Mike Jefferies and Danny McCarthy. Runners-up were Dave Barber, Tys Pringle, Chris Faber and Mannie Rodrigues.
Third prize went to Trevor Anderson, Tony Bailey, Brian Muir and Ross Ferguson.
The first tabs for the year was opened by the club’s life member Ida du Randt, last Saturday.
It was absolutely fantastic to see her at tabs to open the green as she has gone through a particularly hard time recently.
Her MCC family welcomed her warmly.

MUNSTER
THE Web Restaurant open trips was won by Aubrey Hood, Steve and Jenny Rennie.
Runners-up were Tommy and Louise Dry, with Willie Smit.
Session prize went to Graham and Anjie Gold with Cliff Moakes.
The club is hosting a Burns Night this Friday at 5.30pm.

PORT EDWARD
THE Cheyenne Spur ‘Top Shot’ was played last Friday.
In section one, overall winners were Joe Ashworth, John Keppler, Pat Miller and Mike Carter.
Runners-up were Aubrey Hood, Steve Rennie, Llew Angus and Jenny Rennie.
Session prize went to Fanie Koekemoer, Dice Graaf, Sera Koekemoer and Judith Simpson
In section two, overall winners were Mike Davis, Jeanie West and Mike Gouwer.
Session prize went to Frank Foley and Jeannette Offer.
Funds raised went to popular competition secretary Leoni Booth who has been selected for the Kingfisher women’s interdistrict B team.
She will be travelling to play in Pietermaritzburg in February and Gonubie in March.
Barry Payn has been selected for the men’s team.
The club drawn mixed pairs list is on the board.
Duties: bar – Dave Banks, tabs – Judy Alilovic, tea – Yvonne Fillis, eats duty for mixed trips – Elbe and George Snyman.
Twilight bowls will be on January 31, from 3.30pm. Dress casual.

GOOD bowling to all the teams taking part in the KBA Midsummer Mixed Fours taking place this Saturday and Sunday.
Winners of Cupboard Value open trips were Trevor Anderson, Heather Flyng and Chrissie Chancellor with 4+ 13.
First session winners were Dave and Rae Barber and Joan Muir with 2 + 15 and second session winners were Frikkie Brits, Doreen and Johan van der Westhuizen with 2 + 10.
The sportsman’s prize went to Jannie van der Nest, Sydney Ackermann and Dick Thompson.
Winners of the women’s drawn fours were Vi Eltis, Hazel Williams, Trish Steyn and Ann Gibson.
The next sponsored competition will be Fruit & Veg mixed 2-4-2 on Friday, January 31.

WELL done to Richard Moore and Mal Sheppard who won the club nominated mixed pairs. They beat Hugh and Jean Purtell.
A good morning’s bowls was contested on Sunday during the ‘bowls, bring, braai’. Thank you to all the women for their delicious salads.
All members are asked to please get on with the club knockout competitions as soon as possible.

THE South Coast Herald mixed 2-4-2 was won by Felicity van Rensburg and Jan Snyman.
Runners-up were Keith Mills and Hester Hankey and the session prize went to Gill and Keith Thiele. The Apex Electrical sponsored mixed trips was won by Geoff Kelleher, Jane Massam and Cosmos Gumede.
In second place were Mark Bishoff, John Hové and Martjie Human.
Third place went to Spike Maritz, Tom Semple and Dot Maritz.
The Dr Darryl D’Arcy men’s trips will be played this afternoon (Thursday, January 23).

WINNERS of the Venture Inn/Jaxx men’s trips were Bez Bezuidenhout, Jan Venter and Jan Oosthuizen.
Runners-up were Gerry Cox, Geoff Barbour and Tabie Jonker. Session prize went to Duncan Randall, Peter Ford and Shaun Titmus. There will be a fun ‘cricket day’ on Sunday, February 2, in the morning, with a braai afterwards.
Everyone welcome, flat shoes and casual dress.

WINNERS of the Hibiscus Retirement Villages’ men’s trips were Bill Brown, Barry Herbert and and Chris Abram followed by John Richards, Tony Simmons and Bill Reed. Sessions went to Denzil Massyn, Gary Hess and Bruce Coldwell and to Alan Tyers, Brian Hughes and Bill Parfitt. Bill Brown also won the whisky.
The winners of the Martin Electronics men’s 2-4-2 were Arthur Orr and Bill Eccles followed by Mike Gamble and Neels Boshoff. Sessions went to Barry Christie and Norman Isherwood and to Mike Jeffrey and Ernie Southward. Mike Jeffrey also won the whisky.
The next sponsored competitions at our club are the Execudec mixed 2-4-2 on January 28.
