Cricketer Morne could have used some support
SKZN's opening batsman produced the only respectable score of the innings.
THE Southern KwaZulu-Natal cricket XI had a tough fixture against Berea Rovers in Durban last Sunday.
SKZN lost the toss and were put in to bat. They were under pressure from ball one. Opener Morne Bishop did extremely well upfront, scoring 38 but he had little support and SKZN XI were bundled out for 108 runs.
In reply Berea Rovers wasted no time and chased the target down in 16 overs, losing 3 wickets in the process and beating SKZN by seven wickets.
In local cricket Port Shepstone Country Club took on the Hibiscus Colts. PSCC won the toss and sent the Hibiscus Colts in to bat. The Hibicus Colts battled, losing wickets at regular intervals and scoring only 107 runs. Sachin Kalkapersad was the pick of the bowlers, claiming four for 30 in 10 overs.
In reply PSCC lost a few early wickets. However, Greg Wigmore (52 not out) and Matthew Louw (29) steered the ship home, winning by 5 wickets.
Douglas Mitchell Old Boys played against Douglas Mitchell Colts at DM Sports Grounds. The Old Boys won the toss and elected to bat first. The Colts’ bowlers used the hot, muggy, overcast conditions to their advantage and removed the top order in quick time with some thrilling swing bowling from the opening pair. At 60 for five the Old Boys were in trouble. Wickus Pretorius came to the crease and dominated the bowling, hitting the ball to all parts of the ground, making 89 runs. Dale Potgieter chipped in with 23 runs and Jhean Ludick with 30 runs, taking the Old Boys to 217 all out, Louis Allison was the pick of the bowlers, taking four for 23 in nine overs.
In reply Colts got off to a decent start with a 50-run opening stand, but then the wheels came off. Losing wickets at a rapid pace, Colts slumped to 122 all out, with Ross Theron scoring 36 runs and Louis Allison 30 runs. Of the Old Boys’ bowlers, Niko Potgieter took four for 26 in 10 overs, with the spinners Dale Potgieter and Barry Carlsson taking two wickets apiece. Old Boys won by 95 runs.
Sezela was scheduled to play against Merlewood in Sezela. Merlewood did not arrive at the fields.
