SKZN XI outclassed in Durban
DHS Old Boys were just too much for the South Coasters.
THE Southern KwaZulu-Natal XI faced the mighty DHS Old Boys in Durban last Sunday. SKZN lost the toss and were put in to bat. They had their backs against the wall from the word go.
Facing aggressive, hostile bowling from the DHS Old Boys’ seamers, the batsmen battled to get going, eventually being bowled out for 116 in the 39th over. Sachin Kalkapersad with 19 runs and Gareth Bishop with 23 top scored for SKZN.
Old Boys’ batsmen wasted no time, reaching the total in the 19th over with only three wickets down. SKZN XI lost by seven wickets.
In local cricket, Sezela hosted the Knights, who won the toss and elected to bat first. This proved to be the right call as they posted 255 for 9 in 50 overs. Top run scorers were Usman Moosa with 51 and Mohammed Moola with 48 not out. Paul McGough, Harry Peters and Dale Short were the pick of the bowlers, taking two wickets each.
Sezela batsmen Dale Short and Harry Peters put up good resistance, scoring 53 and 38 runs respectively. However, Sezela were bowled out for 192 runs, Muhammud Paraze taking four wickets for 20 runs in nine overs. Knights won by 63 runs.
DMCC Old Boys hosted the Hibiscus Colts. DMCC captain Anton Potgieter won the toss and sent the Colts in to bat. The youngsters did extremely well and kept the Old Boys’ team out in the field for 49 overs posting 138 all out. Bryce Allchin top scored with 39 runs and was well assisted by Ross Klusener, only 11 years old, who made 23 runs. Gershion Lawrance, with three wickets for 17 runs in seven overs and Nikita Sole, with two wickets for 21 runs in 10 overs, were the pick of the bowlers. DMCC Old Boys did not waste any time and reached the total in the 21st over losing one wicket. Gershion Lawrance made 56 not out and Russell Hughes made 51 not out. DMCC Old Boys won by nine wickets.
