Colts edge Sezela in cricket thriller
The weather was perfect for some 'sizzling' cricket.
THE Hibiscus Colts travelled to Sezela on Sunday. They won the toss and elected to bat first.
The Colts set a decent total of 196 runs in 50 overs. Matthew Denton-Cooke top scored with 54 runs, assisted by Leon Kruger, who was unbeaten on 39 not out.
William Gillham was the pick of the Sezela bowlers, taking 2/30. In reply, Sezela fought back hard and fell short by only six runs.
William top scored for the hosts with 46 runs. Bryce Allchin and MJ van Rooyen took three wickets apiece, bowling Sezela out for 190 runs.
PSCC hosted DM Colts and, winning the toss, decided to bat first.
This proved to be the right decision as they put on 245 runs, thanks to some excellent batting from Sachin Kalkapersad who made 95 runs and his brother Prantosh, who made 85 runs.
DMCC Colts battled in their reply, losing wickets at regular intervals, and were bowled out for 130 runs in 40 overs.
There was tight bowling from Noel Pieterse, who took 4/19 and Cyal Eigermann, who took 3/22. PSCC won by 115 runs.
DMCC Old Boys hosted the Knights. The Knights won the toss and elected to bat first but struggled against the Old Boys’ experienced bowling attack.
The Knights collapsed, being bowled out for 113 runs in 33 overs. Niko Potgieter was the pick of the bowlers, taking four wickets.
He was assisted by his ‘boet’ Dale, and Jhean Ludick, who both took two wickets.
In reply the Old Boys’ batsmen did not waste any time and passed the score in just 15 overs.
Gershion Lawrance and Junaid Khan took the Old Boys home, scoring 49 not out and 38 not out respectively. DMCC won by eight wickets.
