Uvongo tennis players get CPR training
Tennis club members now know what to do in an emergency.
THE number of players has been drastically affected by the excessive heat and humidity we are experiencing on the coast. Although this has been frustrating, players must be aware of the fact that their health is important.
Well done to Duncan Biggar, who organised for Shaun Govender, a paramedic and registered CPR trainer, to give some basic training to members of the club wanting to learn how to handle a situation everyone hopes will not happen.
In the case of the tennis club, assistance to a person suffering a heart attack was of importance. Survival using what we were shown and given the opportunity to practise is not guaranteed but a great deal better than standing around not knowing what to do. All those attending the training learned a great deal.
Living in an environment of people who are of the ‘older generation’ this training is of great importance and therefore would encourage clubs to think of holding similar training sessions. Duncan also did a great job making hot dog rolls so players could purchase their lunch and eat before taking to the courts to play!
People planning to play in the KZN Veterans’ Tournament please note the dates have been changed to July 18 to 20. Updated information will be posted as it is received.
Members’ thoughts are with Willem Erasmus, his mother and family, as his father is seriously ill in hospital.
Sonja Watt returned from time in the Berg but picked up a ‘bug’ and has been unable to play. Derrick and Lynette Shell and Shelagh Schwegman are on holiday in the Cape and have been missed. The Shells visited Debbie Rosenberg who has relocated to Yzerfontein. She and her husband Kevin have settled down and send regards to all the club members. It has been great to have regular visitors to the club, Kobus and Meisie van den Heever, with us for a short time. We hope they return in the near future.
Duties: Saturday – Marietjie, Monday – Felicity, Wednesday – Jan K.
Please remember that courts are available for hire for ‘locals’ and visitors thinking about wanting to start playing tennis or wanting to exercise and have fun!
