Juniors make a splash at gala
Two of Margate Swimming Club's juniors took part in the Kloof Minilympics gala.
TWO of Margate Swimming Club’s juniors took part in the Kloof Minilympics gala held at Kings Park Pool in Durban, with encouraging results.
Nine-year-old Danica Pretorius improved on her 100m individual medley and 25m butterfly times and showed great form in her breaststroke, freestyle and backstroke events, Kai Hielckert (9), competing for the first time at a club meet, produced great swims, winning silver in the 200m individual medley and gold in the 25m breaststroke. Well done on fantastic swims and looking forward to the Blue Ocean Aquatics gala at Creston this weekend.

Margate team members Shebjorn Axelson and Danielle Smith were selected to compete in the International Invitation Swim Meet, hosted by KZNA last Saturday. This meet drew entries from all over South Africa as well as international swimmers from England, Brazil and Hungary.
Shebjorn produced solid swims in preparation for the national championships taking place in April. She placed sixth in the 50m freestyle, and fifth in the 100m backstroke in a new personal best time of 1:09.98. Danielle Smith placed third in
the 200m backstroke event, with encouraging swims in the 400m individual medley, 200m freestyle and 200m butterfly events, ahead of her Level 3 national championship later this month in Cape Town.
