Karateka excel in Durban

The South Coast is producing some quality karate talent.

PORT Shepstone Shotokan Karate Club did extremely well at the recent South African Elite International Karate Championships which was held at the Durban University of Technology.

Darian Moonsamy achieved one silver medal and one bronze in the U21 age category, brown belt. Mahish Panday, who fought in the kumite division, performed admirably and earned himself a silver medal in the 12 to 14 age category, brown belt. Jehryn Moonsamy fought in 10-12 age category, and picked up a bronze medal.

Each of the students qualfies to take part in the international all styles championships later in the year. Sensei Frank Moodley said that the competition was of a very high standard. “I am very proud of the results achieved,” he said.
