Young swimmers make a splash
A number of records were broken at the Blue Ocean Aquatics gala.
THE Status Blue Ocean Aquatics Junior Splash gala was a tremendous success, with 11 clubs and 25 schools taking part in the event.
This year there were prizes for the school and club (excluding BOA) with the most entries. Suid-Natal won the school trophy and most club entries was won by Margate Swimming Club. There were 139 individual entries and some swimmers achieved their personal bests, with a number of records being broken. Jaime Storm and Monica Botha broke four records, Jade Cunningham set two new records and Erica Hair, John Hattingh and Raphy Yumba broke one record each.
Congratulations to the age group winners: Six years and under – Raphy Yumba and Kara Lombard; seven-year-olds – Monica Botha and Andre Steyn; eight-year-olds – Scarlett Scorer and Leith Hair; nine-year-olds – Cara Message and Rafe Lombard; 10-year-olds – Jaime Storm and Andre Nell. 11-year-olds – Andreka Pillay and John Hattingh; 12-year-olds – Jade Cunningham and Rudi Steyn/Liam Taljaard and 13-year-olds: Jonathan Pretorius.
Thanks go to the swimmers who took part. The club is looking forward to seeing them at the Spring Splash 2014, where there will be some more events for our younger swimmers.
