Motoring enthusiasts take to the road
Contestants said that the early morning wind had an icy bite to it but they donned their jackets and beanies and enjoyed the silent emptiness and wintry grandeur of the journey.
SOUTH Coast Motorcycle and Car Club hosted an economy run last Sunday where any car, bakkie or motorcycle, modern or classic, was allowed to take part.
The event started and finished at Classic Cars in Margate, going down to Port Edward, then up to Izingolweni, back down to Port Shepstone and then to Margate.
The trip was just over 115km. Prize-giving took place at the same venue.

Results: 1 Con Engelbrecht, Audi A1 – 6.226l/100km per tonne; 2 Ken Sink, VW Caddy – 6.335l/100km per tonne; 3 Huibert Phielix, Suzuki Swift – 6.855l/100km per tonne; 4 Geoff Howard-Tripp, Jaquar 3.8 – 7.96l/100km per tonne; 5 Wally Heales, Chev Spark – 11.168l/100km per tonne.
Fuel consumption was modified by any late arrival at checkpoints causing a penalty of 0.5 litre per minute late.
Poor Wally Heales actually did much better than his fifth position suggests if you take off his penalties – his little Chev actually did less 5l/100km.
Geoff Howard-Tripp incurred the least in penalties, being only one minute late in total. Well done to Geoff and the 50 year old Jag.
