EIGHT stalwart players took to the courts at Umtentweni Tennis Club last Saturday afternoon, in the gentle rain, and managed two or three sets before heavier rain set in.
Though wet, the courts were playable, and thanks go to Reel Fincham who, with the gardener, has been busy washing the courts with chlorine.
Mervyn Tarboton was on duty and thanks go to his wife Gloria for providing her wonderful chocolate cake, sausage rolls and other goodies for tea though Mervyn would have us believe he was up at 5am doing the baking.
They are wished a happy and safe journey to Perth to visit family. Jean Marx is wished a quick recovery from her short stay in hospital. Members were sad to learn that Jesus Rodriguez has had to take another break from playing to allow his knee more time to repair but members hope to see him back on court before too long. Grant Wood is on duty next Saturday, November 8 and Anne Payn on November 15.
In news from the week before, all the same visitors graced the courts or clubhouse with their welcome presence.
Thanks go to Lynne Rorich who brought along lots of goodies to eat but, remember Lynne, your home-made milk tart is much better than that bought one.
Several members celebrate their birthdays in November and we wish them all a very happy day.
Shirley Galloway, who was secretary of the club for many years and now lives in Pietermaritzburg, celebrated hers on the 1st, Dries Coetzee on the 4th.
Julia Christiansen will celebrate on the 7th, Geoff Hudson on the 8th, Murray Ross on the 10th and Niven Naganna on the 22nd.
We haven’t seen most of you Novemberites for a while so come along again soon and have a game; don’t let being a year older deter you.
John Silk has gone off on his travels again and Lynne Rorich is taking a trip down to the fairest Cape once again.
