Day 10: England crush old foes

Not even William Wallace could have saved the Scots.

NOT even a South African’s influence could help Scotland slide to a huge defeat against ancient ‘enemies’ England.

The English batted first and amassed 303/8. In reply, Scotland managed only 184.

Scotland’s captain Preston Mommsen could quite possibly have ended up playing for South Africa.

He represented South Africa at under 19 level, and played his first game for Scotland in a first class match against the Netherlands in June 2010.

Mommsen attended Hilton College in KwaZulu-Natal.

Here he was not only a member of the 1st XI cricket team but also of the 1st XV rugby team and went on to represent South Africa School Boys for both sports.

In 2006 Preston went on a cricket and rugby scholarship to Gordonstoun School in Moray, Scotland for the summer and winter terms and subsequently decided to stay in Scotland.

Next game, Tuesday, February 24: 5.30am – West Indies vs Zimbabwe.
