THE Southbroom Ladies Classic tees off at the scenic Southbroom Golf Club this Sunday, May 10.
Now in its 11th year, it will be played over three days, with the format being betterball Stableford.
Winners last year were Janice Lang and Lorraine Cook of Southbroom.
The tournament is immensely popular and getting in to the event is no small achievement.
It’s booked out within weeks of it finishing.
The weather is usually wonderful at this time of the year, which adds to the attraction of playing golf on the coast at this time of year.
Many of the golfers are repeat visitors from upcountry who simply love to play golf at Southbroom, along with the locals.
“I would say about 85 to 90 percent of the 156 players are visitors. It’s great for our local economy never mind Southbroom,” said pro Derek James.
This year it’s the biggest ever, with a morning and afternoon field.
There’s just as much fun off the course, with a big ‘show’ on Sunday night.
This year the theme is ‘Grease’. “The movie, not the country,” quipped Derek.
Supermodel DJ, whose slim build is the envy of models the world over, will be doing his usual thing.
New pro shop assistant, Dane Adendorff, is also expected to make a debut. “In the show, not the modelling,” he was quick to add.
