THE annual SuperSport Media Golf Day took place at Mount Edgecombe Country Club recently.
The idea was to give the media a chance to test their skills on the golf course, alongside some of the province’s sporting celebrities.
Host for the day was Vera Vencatasamy of Media Link.
Iqbal Khan, a well-known sports journalist for Independent papers, was among the winning fourball which included former Bafana Bafana captain Neil Tovey, as well as golf union president Neil Champion, and Bradley Samuel.
They scored 86 points to edge out South Coast Herald sports editor David Rush and his team, which included Gareth Olivant (former SA Country Districts hockey captain), Dr Trevor Adams and Dean Kasavan, on 85 points.
Third place went to Sunshine Tour pro Jared Harvey, Sunday Tribune sports editor Simon Osler, Dolphins cricketer Robbie Frylink and Mercury journalist Patrick Compton, on 82 points.
Beachwood pro Brad Ross, former Dolphins cricketer Keith Forde, East Coast Radio’s Mak Dlamini and KZN golfer Lizzie Currie were fourth, counted out on 82 points.
In fifth, losing out on the countout, were Murray Staats (Independent papers), KZN golfer Siyanda Mwandla, former Bok and Sharks rugby player Stefan Terblanche (who handed out the prizes) and Independent papers’ sports journalist, Lungani Zama.
Nearest the pin on the 15th was Simon Osler, while Brad Ross hit the longest drive on the 8th.
