KINGFISHER BOWLING ASSOCIATION

THE Preliminary Masters are being played at Margate this weekend so please come and support your players. The winners of each section will qualify for a place in the Masters in October.

Good luck and good bowling to Louw Vermeulen and Keith Harcombe from The Bell and Pam Cole-Cook and Vi Pells from Margate who are representing the district in the Spec-Savers Pro 10 Pairs in Johannesburg this weekend.

The technical officials and coaches are having their AGM at The Bell on Wednesday, September 23 at 9.30am. All markers, umpires and coaches are invited to attend.

MARGATE CC

AT the club’s AGM held last Saturday the new committee comprising Martiens Olivier (president), Gae Gravell (vice-president), Kobie Stander (secretary), Clive Edmundson (treasurer) and Dora Vosloo (competition’s secretary) was announced and welcomed. Thanks to these elected office bearers for serving the club’s interests.

Dora Vosloo was presented with the women’s singles trophy in front of previous winners, Ida du Randt (1995) and Gae Gravell (2000, 2002 and 2004).

The Hair Shoppe women’s fours winners with an amazing score of 21+9 were Sheena Absalom, Vickie de Beer, Freda Meintjes and Yvonne Bausak. The runners-up were Annette Payne, Betty Bolton, Ann Waugh and Maureen Roach with a score of 19+9. The ladder winners were Michelle Vermeulen, Susan Fourie, Sheena Dempster and Sandy van Niekerk.

PORT SHEPSTONE CC

AT the bowls club awards evening for 2015, held last week, president Kevin Lancaster thanked everyone for doing so much for ensuring it had become a real part of the country club. A new pace has also been re-created with good Sunday entertainment and the increasingly popular business bowls challenges all helping to attract new members.

There were lots of prizes given out as well as special awards to Eddie Fann (men’s bowler of the year); Maureen Muller (women’s bowler of the year) and Jenny Rawlins (president’s award for long service to the bowling community).

In the club competitions, Sharon Bischoff and Winnie Hess won the women’s pairs. Eddie Fann and Howard Frizelle won the men’s pairs and Tony Johnson and Ann Payn won the mixed pairs.

On Wednesday the winners of the Spar women’s fours were Kobie Stander, Dora Vosloo, Caroline Harris and Winnie Hess. Runners-up were Daphne Sapsford, Marie Coetzer, Barbara Gradwell and Mada Lindeque.

In the Harbour View SuperSpar trips held last Sunday the winners were Mark and Barbara Smith with Ty Ferguson. Runners-up were Kieron and Sharolyn Dacey with Steve O’Moore. The session prize went to Hew Hodgson, Alan Jacobson and Irena Eigermann.

UMTENTWENI

WINNERS of the Harbour View SuperSpar mixed pairs played on Friday, September 4 were Tammy Gibbons and Dumi Mdlala. Runners-up were Doreen and Ty Ferguson with the session prize going to Dennis Graham and Astrid Jackson.

South Coast Herald men’s pairs scheduled for Tuesday, September 1 was postponed because of the weather and is now due to be played on Monday, September 14.

The R350 petrol voucher donated by LSC Motors was won by Eudelle Caney.

HIBBERDENE

BRUCE Hoyer, Pauline Howle and Martin Rautenbach won the monthly nominated mixed trips sponsored by Tiago’s last Friday afternoon. Bez Bezuidenhout, Miriam Seager and Judy Aiston were runners-up and the session was won by Danie and Annetjie Human with Cheryl Knight.

There will be a social get-together at the clubhouse this evening (Thursday) with boerewors rolls on sale.

The next competition is on Friday afternoon sponsored by Hibberdene Pharmacy.

Members are asked to keep Maureen and Tabie Jonker in their thoughts as both have had a few health snags.

THE BELL

LOUW Vermeulen and Keith Harcombe will be representing Kingfisher in the Spec-Savers Pro 10 tournament in Johannesburg and are wished good luck and good bowling.

Mada Lindeque, Johannie Theron, Tina Barbour, Michelle Vermeullen, Barry Delvin, Peet van Rooyen and Keiron Dacey, taking part in the Preliminary Masters this weekend are also wished good bowling.

The next sponsored competition will be the Captain’s Anchor mixed fours taking place this Friday. Convenor – Sandy Penny.

SOUTHBROOM

RECEIVING vouchers for Mariners Restaurant in the open fours were winners Steve Rennie, Aubrey Hood, Glen Allen and John Kepler. Ina Malan, Derrick Schorn, Carl Volker and Corrie Malan were runners-up. First session went to Ivan and Hazel Hosken, Norman Isherwood and Dawn Oehley and the second session was won by John Sutton, Betty Bolton, Manny Rodrigues and Yvonne Bausek. The 50/50 went to Lorraine Wijtman.

The Warwick Wealth sponsored day is today (Thursday) at 1.30pm for 2pm. Wors and prego rolls are on the menu for snacks afterwards. All our bowlers should join in and enjoy this day.

The club’s AGM will be held on Friday, September 25 at 5pm.

MUNSTER

THE club held its annual prize-giving dinner last Saturday. The men’s and women’s champions, Martiens Zietsman and Louis Dry were presented with their trophies and all other prize-winners were congratulated.

As the green is closed for refurbishment, the club will be holding various fund-raising events during the off-season.

MARGATE

CONGRATULATIONS to Ellen Cawker, Barbara Brook, Pam Cole-Cook and Vi Pells on their runners-up place in the KZN women’s fours played in Durban last weekend.

Pam Cole-Cook and Vi Pells are wished good bowling in the Spec-Savers Pro 10 pairs tournament in Johannesburg this weekend. Good bowling is also extended to the players playing in the Preliminary Masters this weekend at MBC.

The winners of the Margate Panelbeaters men’s 2-4-2 on Friday were Athol Robertson and Dieter Scholz on 4+20. John Sutton and Manny Rodrigues were runners-up on 4+7. The first session went to Trevor Heywood and Phillipe Audibert on 2+13 and the second session was won by Ian Hutton and Alan Dinning on 2+27.

The next sponsored competition is the Halfway Toyota men’s trips to be played on Friday morning, September 11. Please enter your teams on the list on the notice board.

The next quiz evening will be on Wednesday, September 16. There will be fish and chips for supper and lots of fun.

Members are urged to support the Sunday morning social bowls as usual, tabs in by 8.30 for 9am. All welcome including non-bowlers who may be interested in the sport.

THE next Nomads’ outing will be held at The Bell Bowling Club on Sunday, September 13 at 8.30am for 9. There will be a bring and braai after the competition.

BANNERS REST

ROD Phelps, Dan Delaney, Val Smith and Amorie Schoëler won the Hyundai drawn fours played on Wednesday, September 2. Placed second were Brian Cole-Cook, Marianne van Buuren, Jens Anderson and Sariena Ziervögel, and third were Joe Ashworth, Sergio Ruperto, Pam Gilson and Amy Körner. The 50/50 board went to Joey Anderson.

The GP Security mixed pairs played on Friday, September 4 was won by Graham and Anjie Gold, with runners-up Aubrey Hood and Jeannie West. The second session was won by Bob Francis and Mary Phelps and 50/50 board went to Joe Ashworth.

Final sponsored competition this season ahead of green closure was the Tops Port Edward men’s pairs, won by Kotie Snyman and Brian Cole-Cook. Runners-up were Rod Phelps and Spike Williams, and second session went to Aubrey Hood and Dice Graaff. The 50/50 board was won by Peter Bennett.

Congratulations to Glen Allen on winning the 2015 club handicap men’s singles championship from runner-up John Keppler.

Birthday greetings go to Pam Cole-Cook and Jenny Rennie on September 13th.

RIVERSIDE

RAE Barber won the corner-to-corner competition last Friday and Chummy Smith, Dave Barber and Trevor Prinsloo were declared winners of the potjiekos competition.
