Dining with PSL football stars
The deputy mayor thanked all the sponsors and also encouraged more businesses to pledge their support to the initiative.
LOCAL footballers and fans had a great opportunity to rub shoulders with some of their PSL heroes,including Amazulu and Golden Arrows players, at a gala dinner after the Mayoral Cup last weekend.
Deputy mayor Councillor Johnny de Wet, standing in for the mayor who was on a visit to Nigeria, hosted the evening at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre last Friday evening.
He said that the initiative would go a long way to prepare sportsmen and the youth and he hoped the tournament would inspire local talent.
Amazulu player Kasonga Busaka said they were excited to be a part of the Mayoral Cup Challenge.
“I would like to applaud the municipality for this great opportunity that they have given to the young people of the South Coast.”
Khulile Shezi, a sportsman from Kwa-Madlala said: “The Mayoral Cup has gone a long way to take young people away from crime and drugs. We need more sponsors to give support to sports teams and federations. Some of the young kids in some clubs do not even have boots to play in.”
