Fishy festival reels them in
A great family atmosphere prevailed on all three days at Paddock.
THE popular annual Paddock fishing competition took place last weekend and, as usual, generated much excitement.
The event was well attended and saw more than 300 anglers and their families spend a weekend fishing and camping. With R150 000 worth of prizes to be won, the good turnout was hardly surprising.
About 35 local dams were opened to the anglers and, perhaps to the chagrin of the women, the overall biggest fish this year was caught by Jacques Verheem who managed to hook a 3.21kg bass from Bruce Pepworth’s dam.
The overall heaviest tilapia was caught by Hartweig du Rand and weighed in at 2.65kgs.
Paul Grobler came first in the men’s category with his bass of 3.02kg while Linda Smith took first position in the women’s category with her bass of 1.51kg.
N.Neuhoff was happy with his 1.38kg bass which landed him first place in the junior section. In the men’s tilapia section, Piet Potgieter came first with his 2.61kg catch.
In the women’s tilapia section, Lydia Shipley took first place with her 1.88kg fish. Deaan Pretorius was first with his 1.06kg tilapia in the junior section.
A total of 442.933kgs of fish was caught and weighed throughout the weekend with the most fish coming out of Eric Dunstone’s dam in Oribi. Roy Demont took home the prize for the best prepared dam of the compo. The organisers thanked the dam owners, the generous sponsors, all the helpers and the public for their continued support for the event.
