From the bowling greens: Shane and Maureen are masters of the game

KINGFISHER BOWLING ASSOCIATION

THE Kingfisher Bowling Association Masters tournament saw some incredible bowls from both the men and women.

They got off to a great start, with the weather holding out on Saturday and Sunday until the finals in the afternoon.

Then the heavens opened, with the result that the games for gold and silver for both the men and women were postponed to Tuesday.

Spectators were treated to some of the best bowls from the very best players with Shane Nienaber (Margate BC) winning the title and Mark Smith (Port Shepstone) runner-up.

On the women’s side Maureen Muller (The Bell) won the honours from Ellen Cawker (Margate BC) in what proved to be a really strong match.

The executive thanked both Southbroom and Margate for hosting the tournament as well as all the markers and technical officials for their time.

Well done to Ellen Cawker who won both the Re/Max Overall Bowler and HRV KBA Bowler of the Year awards.

And to Port Shepstone’s Eddie Fann who won the men’s Re/Max Overall Bowler and Shane Nienaber who won the HRV KBA Bowler of the Year.

The KBA Club trophy was won by The Bell for the second year running.

The Kingfisher Bowling Association AGM was held last week.

Incoming executive committee is as follows: Barbara Brook (president), Tyrone Ferguson (vice-president), Carol McMullin (hon. secretary), Gae Gravell (hon. treasurer), Geoff Barbour (comp secretary men), Tina Barbour (comp secretary women) and members Shane Nienaber, Sean Larkins and Bruce Hoyer.

INTER-DISTRICTS TEAMS

NAMES for the 2017 Inter-District teams due to play in March next year were announced recently.

Men’s open: Eddie Fann, Ron Weddell (manager), Roy Anderson, Kevin Lancaster, Shane Nienaber, Peet van Rooyen, Ian Hutton and Ross Ferguson.

Men’s senior: Bob Elliott, John Mitchley, Brian Douthwaite, Bruce Hoyer, Louw Vermeulen (manager), Ken Tonge, Claude Ching and Mike Mordaunt.

Men’s B: Mike Davies (manager), Wayne van Nikkelen-Kuyper, Dumisani Madlala, Cosmos Gumede, Chris Faber, Ranier van Tonder, Stefan Saunders and Elliot Nqoko.

Men’s President’s: Rodney Forte, Jeremy Davy, Albert Munnik, Senzo Radebe, Allan Grey, Leon Saunder, Peter Maggs and John Keppler.

DOUG WATSON

THE EXPRO Doug Watson Memorial Classic, which will involve 24 teams, will be played at Margate BC on November 5 and 6.

It’s 40 years since the late Doug’s epic victory as part of team South Africa.

Sponsors for the event include Warwick Wealth, Flight Sure and Martin Electronics.

BANNERS REST

WELL done to members selected to represent Banners in the KBA Sevens and Saturday leagues, with teams posted on the notice board.

Congrats also to John Keppler on selection to the KBA President’s team.

HIBBERDENE

AFTER the last successful bingo evening a few weeks ago, there will be a quiz evening on Friday, October 21 from 4pm, followed by a bring and braai,

Bez and Bubbles Bezuidenhout, with Gloria Gerrard, won the recent Warwick Wealth day played at Sezela.

MARGATE BC

CONGRATS to Austen Knollys on being awarded a certificate by the KBA for his outstanding service as a technical official to the association.

Margate Panelbeaters once again sponsored the men’s monthly 2-4-2 competition.

Winners were Denzil Massyn and Ken Hills from Gary Hess and Derick Schorn.

Friday night attendance draw was won by John Wevell.

Oktoberfest will be held at the club this Saturday (15th).

THE Hair Shoppe women’s fours was won by Mariaan van Buuren, Leoni Booth, Mary Warner and Sariena Ziervogel.

Runners-up were Pam Cole-Cook, Dora Vosloo and Jo Olivier. The raffle was won by Val Smith.

A TOTAL of 25 members and four visitors took part in the Nomads monthly game, this one played at Margate BC.

Thanks to the club for its hospitality.

First prize, sponsored by Orange River Wine Cellars, went to Herman Scheinberg, Marie Pick and George Pick Jnr.

Runners-up were Sheena Absolom Yvonne James and Hans van der Walt.

In third were Gordon Ogilvie, Margie Purkiss and Dave Slippers.

Sportsman prize to Reic Chamier, Shan Scheinberg and Christine Faber.

Nearest to the jack was Yvonne James. The 50/50 was won by Dave Slippers.

Next outing is at the Village on Sunday, November 20.

PORT SHEPSTONE

THE Harbour View SuperSpar trips was won by Johnny and Richard Guy and Don Wiid.

Runners-up were John Nadauld, Rastus Reen and Alan Booth.

Session prize was won by Brian Rawlins, Kathy Simpson and Len Rossler.

The South Coast Herald mixed fours was won by Brian Rawlins, Jenny Rawlins, Sharon Bischoff and Maureen Jonke.

Barry Christie won the 50/50.
