Winning this year’s title was Blake Louwrens (27) from Westville, who was defending his 2016 title.

Speaking to the Herald, Blake said it was good to defend and to keep the title. He added that the South Coast Strongman is always fun, and this year’s event was well-organised and had a good show of contestants.

“It was great to win the South Coast Strongman for the second time and to have my family, including my grandparents, Tina and Vic Rawlins from Hibberdene, on the field supporting me,” he said.
Blake, who has recently taken a temporary break, is having a good year. He was crowned the Arnold Classic under 105kg strongman for the second year in May and plans to defend his title at the African Champs in November this year.
