Blue Ocean swimmers bag medal haul in Westville sprints

It was good preparation for the provincial champs next month.

A number of Blue Ocean Aquatics swimmers did the club proud at the TYR Westville Sprints gala recently.

Of the 61 events raced by BOA swimmers, 49 were finished in a personal best time.

This shows that there has been a tremendous improvement across all ages and genders and has put the swimmers in good standing for the provincial championships taking place in December.

BOA swimmers came home with two gold medals, four silver medals and eight bronze medals.

Medal winners where Marnu Koekemoer with a total of eight (two gold, three silver and three bronze).

Daniel Fisher obtained bronze medals in the 50m freestyle, as well as the 50m and 100m breaststroke races.

George Annandale claimed bronze in the 100m breaststroke, with Michelle Kretzschmar securing silver in the 100m backstroke.

Carla Kretzschmar nabbed bronze in the 100m backstroke.

Jordan Grobler swam a superb 200m individual medley and took off 20 seconds on the swim, improving overall by 27.71 seconds for the weekend.

Marnu Koekemoer improved by 13.80 seconds, Daniel Fisher by 11.08, Jethro Rolfe by 5.21 and Ricardo Carthew by 4.11.

Carla Kretzschmar improved by 13.71 seconds overall, Winé Koekemoer by 8.58, Tharien Venter by 5.48, Kayla Heydricks by 4.55 and Michelle Kretzschmar by 2.37.
