Slammin’ tennis from juniors

The sparkling new courts added to the appeal of the tournament.

It’s definitely been a time for tennis, with hot summer days coinciding with the Australian Open grand slam, currently on the go in even hotter Melbourne.

Uvongo Tennis Club played host to the 2019 Back to School Junior Tournament last Saturday.

Club president Howard Osborne was on hand to present the prizes to the young players.

One of the organisers, Dianne Digby, said the weather had been kind, with bright sunshine the whole day.

“Well done to everyone who took part, and also to the spectators and parents, who enjoyed the tennis on display on the club’s fantastic new courts,” she said.

“Uvongo TC aims to provide a proactive, effective and thriving junior tennis section to enthuse juniors from a very young age, through to their teens and hopefully beyond.”

RESULTS

U12 singles: winner – Hriday Kambaran; runner-up – Matthew Borchers.

U14 doubles: winners – Daniel Naidoo and Zack Apostilides; runners-up – Matthew Borchers and Michael Potgieter.

U14 singles: winner – Michael Potgieter; runner-up – Daniel Naidoo.
