Inches away from hole-in-one for Ian
He still has 11 months to maintain his once-in-a-decade record!
IAN Stewart of Port Shepstone CC came within an inch recently of a remarkable record, one statisticians in particular may enjoy.
His tee shot on the par three 8th hole very nearly went in. He wasn’t too disappointed, as he’s had three already, but what’s interesting is that they have come exactly a decade apart each time – in 1989, 1999 and 2009.

What’s amusing is that his mates on the 9th tee overlooking the 8th green thought it was his wife Debi’s shot (when last did he even hit that green anyway!) and ironically perhaps she hadn’t even been watching when he teed off.

The actual competition was won on +8 by Fred van Zyl and Shaun Nathanson, on a countout from Niel Retief and Jarrod van Wyk.
In third place were Wendy Timmer and Greg Hornby on +6.
Last Wednesday’s competition saw Tony van Niekerk, Chris Boyce, Johann du Plessis and Jacky van Heerden clean up on 92 points.
