Golden times for swimmer Milla

Blue Ocean Aquatics swimmers have done the South Coast proud.

MILLA Drakopoulos was in peak form at the recent South African national champs for swimmers aged 18 and younger.

The Blue Ocean Aquatics swimmer won gold medals in 100m and 200m backstroke, silver medals in 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly, and bronze medals in 50m and 200m freestyle and 50m backstroke.

This means that Milla is the fastest 12 year old in the country in the events she won.

Teams from Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Kenya also took part.

Milla’s fellow members Marnu Koekemoer, Jethro Rolfe and Michelle Kretzschmar had great races and were on form, showing huge improvement.

Jethro had 29.77 seconds total improvement on his swims, Marnu improved by 12.55 seconds on his swims and Michelle was back to form swimming personal best times in the 50m and 100m backstroke.

In other news, Nelzaan Strydom swam a South African open water qualifying time in the 3km event at the provincial champs in December at Midmar dam as well as placing first in her age group.

Nelzaan Strydom has excelled in open water swimming.

This then allowed her to be selected for the KZN provincial open water team that competed in Marina Martinique in PE.

Nelzaan swam a 45:29:01 and placed 19th in the 3km event in the 15-16 year age group.

She was then asked to swim in the KZN provincial open water relay as well, later in the afternoon.
