Swimmers travel … and triumph

The young swimmers have shown tremendous improvement during the summer.

MARGATE Swimming Club attended recently the Regional level Championships.

Level 1 was held at Durban and Level 2 in Sasolburg.

Level 3 was split, with some swimmers going to Bloemfontein and some to Germiston.

The Level 1 swimmers were Kayde Orsmond, Kal-El Vermeulen, Hercue de Bruin, Enzo Raynard, Neo Lihle, Tsepang Lihle, Kelsey Windvogel and Danica Pretorius.

It proved to be a great weekend of racing for the swimmers, with 22 medals bagged in all.

Enzo earned one gold, one silver and four bronze, and also set a new record.

Kal-El swam to three gold and one silver.

Members of Margate Swimming Club have a bit of fun after a series of competitive swims.

Kayde claimed two bronze.

Danica came home with a stunning nine gold and one silver.

Neo and Tsepang swam encouraging personal best times.

The Level 2 swimmers were Tehl-Cadi Day-Garden, Emily Peckham, Joshua Notrem, Kaitlyn Ramos, Jayden Vermeulen, Landon Windvogel, Everraud Raynard and Britney van Vuuren.

It was a very young and inexperienced team that went to Sasolburg.

Joshua made six finals and won three gold and one silver medal.

Landon made two finals.

The highlight came from Kaitlyn, who made the 100m breaststroke final and came sixth, at the age of only eight years old.

The Level 3 swimmers were Caleb Walton, Jeandré Joubert, Michel Duarte, Scarlet Scorer, Alex-Zandré Labuschagne, Suné de Witt, Tristan Horsley and Bayanda Hufner.

At Germiston, Suné made finals for 100m breaststroke, 200m breaststroke, 200m IM and 50m butterfly.

She took bronze for 200m IM.

Bayanda made finals for 200m breaststroke and 100m breaststroke and took bronze for the 100m breaststroke final.

Alex-Zandré made the final of the 50m backstroke.

It was a tough competition, but with amazing team spirit, all swimmers did fantastically and improved on their personal bests, trimming seconds off their times.
