Off the Hook: Giant kingfish makes Joburg fisherman’s day

Other popular fish caught last week included a variety of rock cod, tuna and couta.

MANY fishermen took to the water last week as mother nature was on their side with the much improved weather.

During the week, there was a good couple of days out at sea, but on the shore it was a different story as the waves were still quite ‘hectic’.

The weekend weather wasn’t so bad either with light rain on Saturday.

Some beautiful shad were caught from the shore at Rocky Bay.

Among the great catches last week were a 22kg giant kingfish, caught on boat Wotalotigot by Johannesburg fisherman, Morkel van Wyk.

Ettienne van der Westerhuizen with a 7kg white edge rock cod.

Other popular fish caught last week included a variety of rock cod, tuna and couta.

Also, something to keep in mind is to clean up after yourself when at the beach, out fishing or just relaxing on the sand.

There have been heaps of rubbish cleaned up from our local beaches after the recent heavy rains and flooding.

A lot of the rubbish cleaned from these beaches included fishing hooks and lines in some areas, so please do enjoy your fishing, but make sure that you respect the ocean too.
