Schools do battle on volleyball courts

The aim of the tournament was to foster friendships and connect pupils from various local schools.

Volleyball players and supporters enjoyed a day of non-stop action at the finals of the school’s volleyball KO competition held under the auspices of the Port Shepstone Volleyball Association (PSVA), at the Marburg Sports Complex last Saturday. The excitement and enthusiasm were palatable as the much-awaited tournament kicked off.

The volleyball courts were jam-packed with coaches and school teachers working in synergy to ensure the day was a success.

Jason Govender, chairman of the PSVA said the aim of the tournament was to foster friendships and connect pupils from various local schools. A total of 43 teams entered (26 primary and 17 high schools). A special welcome went to Mount Currie High School from Kokstad who registered for the first time and entered three teams.

Runners up were Hlanganani who finished second in the girls’ U12 and first in the girls’ U14 sections.

Champions, Jai Hind Primary, finished second in the girls’ U14 section and came first in the boys’ U12 and U14 categories, finishing with 13 points.

Nqabeni Primary won the girls’ U12 in their first year of participation.

Marburg Secondary finished runners up in the girls’ U16 and came first in the girls’ O16 sections.

Champions, yet again, were Port Shepstone Secondary, who were runners up in the girls’ O16 and boys’ U16B. The school also came out tops in the girls’ U16, and in the boys’ U16A and O16 category.
