Fast finish for Big Fish

It was a stunning finish, which saw the club's top golfer go five under in four holes.

GAVIN ‘Big Fish’ Sole finished the last four holes of the Sanlam Cancer Challenge competition at Southbroom Golf Club last Saturday in spectacular fashion, with two birdies, an eagle, and then another birdie.

He had 38 points off his +4 handicap to edge out Malcolm Greenland by one and Johan Wentzel by two.

The next day he led the way as Southern KZN beat Royal Durban ‘A’ to top their pool and qualify for a home semi-final against Zimbali at San Lameer on June 23.

Colin McKay won the B division on 34 points, with Nic van Deventer next on 33 points and Russell Mackenzie on 32 points.

Club captain Gerald FitzGerald cracked the 40 point mark to win the C division closely followed by Malcolm Moorley on 39 points.

Chris Ledden was third on 34 points.

Collecting a bird in the Chicken Run last Friday were Mauricio da Costa (on 25 points!), Eileen Neilson, Rory O’Donnell, Dave Neilson, Paul Lawson, Michelle Viljoen and Malcolm Greenland.

Janet Humphrey won the A division (unopposed) on 28 points.

Candida Amm took first spot in the B division on 32 points, with Sandy FitzGerald in second spot on 31 points and Lorraine Cook next on 30 points.

C division honours went to Val Volck on 35 points, by two from Jill Webster. Lee Mutch was a little further back in third place.

The women’s Ann’s Scramble last Wednesday was won by Shelley Myers, Candida Amm and Sharon Turnbull-Jackson on nett 52 last Wednesday, from Lee Mutch, Karen Bridgeford and Heather van Harmen on nett 53.5.

The men’s competition was won on 40 points by Arthur Lee, with Russell Mackenzie next on 39 points.

Brian Hoggart was next on 37 points, with Gordon Moody in fourth on 36 points.
