Off the Hook: Good fishing in cooler conditions

There was a lot of hype down the South Coast last week, with some sardine activity spotted at Waterfall Bluff, Port St John’s.

Even though there was a bit of a cold front last week and the water turned icy, South Coast fishermen still had luck on their side and recorded some good catches.

And once the weather began warming up over the weekend, the fishing picked up a little too.

Common catches throughout the week included soldier fish, and a bunch of shad made their appearance all along the South Coast.

The fishing competition held at Rocky Bay over the weekend was won by Trevor Rosevere with a beautiful 20.4kg couta.

For those a little further down the South Coast, or who will be heading that way soon, do take note of the upcoming Shelly Beach Ski-boat Festival. This will run from today, Wednesday, June 19 to Saturday, June 22 and there are loads of prizes to be won.
