Herald Fishing: Ski-Boat festival wraps up for another year
The overall winners were team ‘My Deere’ who had held the lead since Thursday with their 58kg yellowfin tuna caught by Julius Heyneke.
The 2019 Shelly Beach Ski-Boat festival turned out to be an unexpected pearler as teams went all out in search of the winning fish last Saturday.
Despite the great conditions, the fishing was tough and at scales, only a few teams managed to weigh fish.

There were some good tuna weighed and notable winners were:
Top junior – Owen Barclay (22.5kg tuna), Top lady – Megan Barclay (18.5kg tuna), third overall winner – Nicky Momberg (24kg tuna), second overall winner (Heaviest gamefish of a different species) – Greg DeFillipi (21.3kg GT)
The overall winners were team ‘My Deere’ who had held the lead since Thursday with their 58kg yellowfin tuna caught by Julius Heyneke.
The team walked off with the magnificent first prize of a Mallards Cobra Cat, on a trailer, with 2 x 60Hp Mercury four stroke motors sponsored by GR5, Mercury and Mallards Boating and Mr Clean.

We are half-way through the year and there have been some amazing catches so far.
We are holding on for the silver masses to arrive. Early signs are looking good, so here’s to a big run. Pocket shoals have been spotted all the way from Port Edward to Glenmore. So there is a possibility that sardines will be netted soon.
The South Coast has produced a lot of kob over the past few weeks. Hibberdene to Port Edward has seen kob between two and 20 kgs. Chokka and redeye sardine is a deadly combination for these fish.
The garrick have also started to show themselves which is very exciting. Lots of shad around which is excellent live bait for garrick and kob.
Tight lines and screaming reels.
