It was ‘Aces’ high at Wild Coast Sun Thunee tournament

The first prize winners were team 'Iszinga Aces' - Kealyn Naidoo and his uncle Harry Govender from Durban.

Thunee gurus came out in their numbers and took part in the Wild Coast Sun Thunee Classic Challenge held at the Wild Coast Sun Hotel and Casino Resort Saturday.

The festivities began with a Bhangra and old school classics evening with DJ Vikraj at Chico’s buffet restaurant last Friday night.

Over 200 players wanted a share of the R30 000 prize money and as always with Thunee tournaments, numerous threats to four-ball (penalise) competitors were made from each table. Partners chirped each other after each hand and the competition became tense at times, but with officials at hand, it was kept clean and fair.

The tournament at the resort is played twice a year in May and November.

From beginning to end spectators enjoyed a tense and nail-biting card game. The semi-final between team ‘Double D’, Damian Naidoo and Ricki Tan from Durban and local team ‘Aces’ James and Ivan Naidoo was the most interesting and went down to the wire.

Leading up to the final round, team ‘Aces’ were just one game away when team ‘Double D’ called ten. This worked in the Durban’s team favour and they ended calling two which won them a spot in the final with team ‘Iszinga Aces’.
