Eagle Paul almost aces 9th at Umkomaas
The morning started off with all the group being welcomed by the Umkomaas caddy master, none other than the captain Peter Toward himself.

ACCORDING to that mine of information called ‘Google’, Umkomaas is so named because years ago a large number of whales used the estuary as a nursery to give birth to little whales.
The river was named the uMkhomazi which means ‘place of the cow whale’.

Well… last Tuesday morning fifty odd Village Eagles used the ground next to the estuary, now called a golf course, to have what can only be called a whale of a time.
The morning started off with all the group being welcomed by the Umkomaas caddy master, none other than the captain Peter Toward himself.
Peter also addressed players at prize-giving making the Eagles welcome and inviting them back.
Does the term ‘host with the most’ not mean something here?
Most of the Eagles arrived at the course with all of their feathers in place as the morning chill called for a bit of protection, but very soon after teeing off the feathers started being removed and it turned out to be a perfect golfing day.
Thanks go to the management and unpunishing rough.
The only disappointment of the day came on the ninth green when Paul Barnett’s tee shot stopped just one inch from the hole.
For Paul it was bad luck, but for the rest it was anything but, as had the ball been kind enough to roll another one and a bit inches first round would have been on Paul.
It goes without saying then that Paul won the prize for nearest the hole on the ninth.
Winners on the day were Joe Carpenter, Ivan Malan, Charlie Vogel and Stella Scott on 87 points.
Stella also won best lady golfer and best gentleman golfer went to Ian McKenzie. Well played all.
