Sardines, whales and birdies at Scottburgh Golf Club
Some golfers get so nervous playing for a sizeable “side bet” that the greens don't need fertilising for the rest of the year.
THE sards have arrived, the whales are jumping, the visitors are flocking to watch and Bob is out of hospital and recovering from knee surgery.
Congrats all round to Mandy Jones who is now president of the lifesavers and to Barry Kisten’s daughter Anastasia who has completed her LLB to go with her B Com Law (is this Scotties own ‘Thuli?) and to son Reuben who is writing his B Com honours well done to you all.

As I wrote last week that the wheel turns slowly but somehow it turns very quickly at Scottburgh Golf Club as Graham Brown came from Stone Last to winner along with partner Nick Wattress on Wednesday with their 45 points.
Brother Dennis Brown and Thys Swart were pipped by one to finish second. Graham also claimed a two-club along with Anton Visagé. Smiley Vahad and Tony Power two of our usual winner managed to lift the Stone.
Last Saturday the ladies played their monthly medal and lady captain Linda Hall scooped all in front of her by winning with a nett 66 and had the fewest strokes on the putting greens.
The ladies were off to Port Shepstone on Sunday to play league against Margate – so look here for the result next week.
The men were treated to sponsorship by the birthday boys of April, May and June and they put up some great prizes.
Tony Power, after regaining his strength for his right arm from Wednesday, partnered Anton Visagé to win with 48 points and Anton acting as pivot also partnered Smiley who must also have recovered to come in second with 44 points. Gareth Walker shouldered Geoff Thomassen – also a recent Stone lifter – to third place with 43 points albeit on a count-out.
As the wheel turns Barry Kisten, last week’s co-winner, had a fresh partner in Big Joe and they managed to pick up the Stone – a bit of a lightweight thing for Big Joe.
Anton, Hilton McAuliffe and Denis Brown all found the hidden holes and Kevin Riemer had the only two-club.
Kevin (Seve to his mates), down here escaping from the icy north, also had nearest the pins on the second and fifth, Russel Freeman 10th, Brett Rowe 13th and Ian Walker 17th all taking home bottles of wine.
Bob will now start collecting for the next bash which will be sponsored by the birthday boys of July, August and September.
Coming up this Wednesday is a betterball bonus bogey and on Saturday the P&G Construction day which will be played as a betterball medal just to get us in shape for the following week’s monthly medal.
The ladies are hosting a wine tasting evening on July 24 and tickets are on sale at the club or see Linda.
