Herald Fishing: Big seas, strong winds and rain

rom the north down to our southern boundary there have been fish coming out and happy anglers all round.

The initial madness of the sardines has settled down a bit. The sardines are still moving past but the bulk of the action is taking place in the deep.

Big seas, strong winds and rain…not words you want to read when deciding whether you are going fishing.

These conditions can keep many anglers indoor, however the persistent ones will have success with multiple species.

Locally, shad and rock cod have dominated the inshore catches.

The garrick are also feeding on plugs. Hats off to the anglers who are releasing their catches.

Just goes to show that there are no rules in fishing.

There have been a lot of kob around and reports are in of a few caught on lures such as paddle tails and rapala.

Anglers dropping large baits with kites and drones have seen continued success.

Kurt Bunge from Oribi shows off the 8.4kg brusher he caught recently.

Most baits are being picked up but few fish being landed.

The offshore scene has been awash with catches of good gamefish and a mixed bag of bottom fish.

From the north down to our southern boundary there have been fish coming out and happy anglers all round.

Please remember to leave the areas that you fish in a better condition than when you got there. Take a few moments to pick up some litter and take it to the nearest bin.
