Umkomaasters win and it’s welcome back to Herbie and Sheila

A full report from the recent AGM will be forthcoming next week.

THE Bell and Anchor men and women’s 2-4-2 competitions had full entries due to the good work done by organisers Jerry Davey and Lindy ‘OB’ Suter.

The Umkomaas team of Anne Williamson and Avril Smith were worthy winners scoring 4+22.

Runners-up Jenny Wadely and Claire Helfrich scored 4+9.

Moira Millard and Irene Hutton won the women’s second session prize with a score of 2+17.

The men’s section was a closely fought contest.

Victors Mally Swanby and Chris Adendorff took the winner’s prize with a score of 4+15.

Runners-up were Ron Millard and Charles Douglas, who scored 4+8.

Second session went to Kevin O’Donoghue and Tony Hoggins on 2+11.

Thanks to main sponsor The Bell and Anchor Restaurant, as well as to Illovo Sugar and the Pennington Superette for supplying the prizes in both the above competitions.

Herbie and Sheila Beverley made a very welcome return to Sezela, the former playing in the above men’s competition while wife Sheila watched from the clubhouse.

Herbie was quickly snapped up by Moira Millard for the next mixed trips competition.

Ten bowlers and several croquet players braved the chilly weather on Sunday when the bowlers enjoyed the company of visitor Fires van Vuuren in a friendly tabs in game.
