Touching gesture from Taffy and Pauline

The club's 69th annual general meeting was held last week.

SEZELA BOWLING CLUB

TAFFY Knight and Pauline Allen sponsored the first prize for our mixed trips competition and received much applause from the 70 odd bowlers who supported the event.

The couple had won a much sought-after raffle and decided it would be a nice gesture to share some of their spoils with their bowling colleagues.

There was only one shot in it between winners and runners-up, Dave Geils with Mike and Claire Helfric, who scored 4+21 to pip Kevin and Sandy O’Donoghue with Tony Hoggins to take the top prizes.

Second session went to Alistair Shaw, Fires van Vuuren and Elenor Walsh, finishing on 2+22 after bullying their opposition 22-0.

Big thanks to Taffy and to Pauline for sponsoring this competition, along with our ever faithfuls Scottfin Insurance Brokers and Warwick Financial Maturity.

Peter Woolcock, Cassie van Aswegen, Engela Wehr and Jean Shannon were kind enough to provide the tasty tea time snacks.

Peter has agreed to provide mussels soon so watch out for the next full moon and spring low tides.

The club’s 69th annual general meeting was held last week and, at an early stage we needed fourteen and a half members to be present, working on a percentage of full members to have quorum.

Fortunately, we had a member not much taller than 1.5 metres who arrived and volunteered to be counted as a half if required.

More than 60 percent of our members attended and were pleased with the club’s performance this year, continuing the good foundation set by committees and members over the past 20 odd years.

It is as follows: president – Gaynor Symons, vice-president – Malcolm Swanby, secretary – Linda Stead, competition secretary – Lindy Suter, greenkeeper – Ian Adam, bar manager – Roger Lane.

They were all unopposed and duly elected as the club’s office bearers.

Outgoing treasurer Mike Helfrich’s replacement will be announced shortly, with other co-opted committee members, on Gay Symon’s return.

Thanks to Linda for keeping us on track in the pre-work needed for the AGM and to all those members who brought a plate of snacks for the ‘after party’ which ended the day in the usual friendly club’ manner.

Sunday’s braai day was well supported, enjoying the company of renowned golfer Mervyn Perry and family.

Mervyn says he is only a holiday bowler, hard to believe!

We wish Jean Munro and Colin MacLeod speedy recoveries and look forward to seeing them back on the bowling green.
