Clean sweep for ‘Sssezelaa!’

Thank you sponsors for making this another most enjoyable afternoon of bowls at Sezela bowling club.

SEZELA BOWLING CLUB

MOIRA Millard did a good job in getting an entry of 22 teams in our monthly mixed Numbers competition, which she won with Avril Black and Herbie Beverley scoring 4 + 37.

Ron Millard, not to be outdone by Moira, won the runners-up prize with Bryony D’Oliveira and Thelma Montague on 4+26.

Second session was won by Jock MacKenzie, Irene Hutton and Michelle Davey, finishing on a massive 2+26.

It was a clean sweep for Sezela teams taking all the prizes and a loud ‘Sssezelaa!’ echoed through the clubhouse when this was announced.

A big thank you to Atlanta Spur and Umdoni Golf Club for sponsoring the prizes.

Birthday boy Charles Douglas provided snacks along with Monette Gibson, Bryony D’Oliveira, Thelma Montague and Lindy Suter.

The mixed 2-4-2 competition, organised by the ever willing Ellie Woolcock and assisted by hubby Peter, took place last Friday with a smaller than usual field, due mainly to colds and flu that is going around.

However, the rain stayed away and we enjoyed some good bowls with our loyal supporters from Scottburgh, Umkomaas and AMBC.

Mike Carr and Bryony D’Oliveira received Zisabo Electrical vouchers winning the second session on 2+13.

Ron Millard and Thelma Montague were runners-up and won prizes sponsored by Penn Valley Pub and Restaurant scoring 4+16.

Mally Swanby and Linda Stead, the latter once again carrying Mally, finished on the exact same score and had to have a one bowl roll off.

Ron delivered first and it was a beauty finishing very close to the jack.

He and Thelma could see their cars being filled with petrol at Halfway Toyota who sponsored vouchers for the winners.

Alas! Mally, who was threatened by partner Linda, nervously drew his single bowl a few centimetres closer than Ron’s and took the spoils.

Loretta Holness with Jerry Davey, Claire Helfrich and Linda Stead very kindly provided snacks.

Bowlers who supported last Sunday morning’s friendly tabs-in games were pleasantly surprised when their names went into a hat giving them a chance to win prizes, thanks to The Doghouse Craft Cafe and Vrystaat Biltong.

This lucky draw format has members who regularly support tabs bowls take home prizes, no doubt we shall plan to have more such events.
