Wind-blown golfers hope for balmy weather

The club will welcome some of the Umkomaas members today (4th) as their course is undergoing spring treatment.

A NEW season where ‘spring has sprung, the grass is riz’ and I wonder where ‘da boidies’ is?

I know, they got blown away on the last day of winter!

From now on we can look forwards to some balmy weather … we live in hope.

The betterball Stableford last Wednesday was also buffeted but the clubs of Dave Sirey didn’t seem affected as he shot 44 individual points to help Denis Brown win the day on 47 points.

They counted out the two Micks, Marriot and Eley.

There were only two 2-clubs, which went to Nick Wattrus and visitor Jaco Vorster, who then assisted Mathew Hall to lift the Stone.

Geoff Thommasen found the hidden holes.

The big blow came through just as we teed off last Saturday.

The ladies played their monthly medal and on a score of 86 Dolores McAuliffe took the title.

Lady captain Linda Toward was second on 87 and, as usual, Lauren Davey got on the scoresheet in third with 88 and had the fewest putts although the total isn’t mentioned.

The men’s betterball Stableford, sponsored by P&G Construction, won on an unusually low score 38, recorded by John Mills and Nick Wattrus.

Coenie du Bruyn and Brett Rowe had 36 to claim second and 34 was the third placed score of Barry Kisten and Denis Brown.

Mathew Hall took the nearest the pin on the 5th but no-one managed to hit the green on the short 10th.

Denis Brown got the only 2-club and the hidden holes are probably somewhere in ‘Toti.

There was a fight to pick up the Stone with the low scores but Clyde Leisegang and son-in-law Brett McNally overcame the rest of the field.

The club will welcome some of the Umkomaas members today (4th) as their course is undergoing spring treatment.

It’s going to be ‘naughts and crosses’, also known as betterball bonus bogey as the format.

The Halfway Toyota Park Rynie sponsored monthly medal takes place this Saturday (7th), followed by a three-ball alliance next Wednesday.

Flyer’s footnote: When writing this column I have to remember not to use double negatives, in the English language this is a veritable ‘no-no’.
