THIS month the Village Eagles took to their wings and flew to Scottburgh Golf Club. The Eagles were not afraid to land at Scottburgh because information had reached the Captain that the landing strip would be in a well-groomed condition.

And so it was. Thanks and congratulations must go to the golf club committee who have obviously put in a lot of hard work to make Scottburgh a neat and very playable golf course. In the words of that famous body builder fellow ‘we will be back’.

An away game for the Eagles always has fewer players than the more popular home games but it is a pleasure to report that this away game kept up with our trend and a record of 60 players teed up in windy but warm weather. The starters did a sterling job getting everybody off earlier than programmed, ensuring that all players had enough time for catching up at the nineteenth hole. Glasses were emptied quickly leaving them just as empty as the 8.30am passenger train that whizzed past us as we played the 3rd hole.
The bar was a rowdy place when Chairman Geoff Bacon called for prize giving to begin. Rowan Bird did a fabulous job of fining errant golfers for various misdemeanors, and the collection glasses soon filled up.

Cash collected is used by the Village Eagles for good causes so a big thanks to all for your generous spirit. Thanks also to our many sponsors without whom all of this fun would not be had.
Winners on the day will be dealt with by the handicapping master so Frank Shaw, Billie Smith, Noel Jessup and Dave Geils are appropriately warned. With 91 points they left the rest of the field in their wake winning by 5 shots clear. Best lady was Scottburgh’s very own Linda Hall and best man was Colin Moody. Prize giving would not be complete if the Stone Trophy was not presented, so Jim Holness, Roly Tickle, Charles Douglas and Gordon Wood gladly accepted said trophy.
Our next game is at Selbourne on November 5. I am sure there will be some fireworks.
