Herald Fishing: Brown trout does trick for Tharratt
There were 26 entrants, with various prizes including a lucky draw.
Nine anglers from the South Coast took part in the recent annual Matatiele fly fishing competition.
It was a well organised event and they had a great time, but fishing was tough.
However, some anglers managed to catch some fish after putting in many hours on the water. Sean Tharratt won first place with a brown trout of 2.46kg.

Junior Protea angler, Liam van der Merwe, got eighth place with a rainbow trout of 1.6kg.
First time entrant Jaco Strauss managed ninth place with a rainbow trout of 1.52kg.
The annual friendly Compass competition was combined with the Matatiele competition year.
Thus, the winning fish was the same one caught by Sean.

The weather and the sea have not been friendly over the last week. Only the determined (foolhardy) have managed some decent fishing.
Mother nature is starting to become more stable. With sea kind of behaving itself, the time for targeting summer species on the boat and from the side has come.

With the weather looking good for the weekend to come, fishing should be excellent.
With the conditions starting to stabilise and the north east wind blowing, the time has come to take out the big tackle and target those big inedibles.
Anglers spinning have still managed to hook in to a late season garrick or two and the odd snoek.
Reports of bronze bream still on the bite. Rock cod, mainly cat face, have also made their presence felt with angler reporting great fights on their light bream rods when a feisty catface decided to snack on their delicate prawn bait.
Fishing a double hook trace is always a good choice in these situations but it does up the chances of getting stuck, so weigh up your options.
If you want to target both rock cod and bream, add a larger bait to your bottom hook (fleshy or chokka based) and your usual prawn bait to the top hook.
Kob still on the bite and looking at the weekends weather it will be perfect to throw a rapala, paddle tail or even chokka baits.
The bass fishing has been particularly good this season with many anglers beating their previous personal bests.
