How fortunate we are to have another district bowler in our ranks.

Due to annual maintenance of the Wilmot green the Bell and Anchor 2-4-2 competition for women was played in the morning and then the men in the afternoon on the available Archer green.

Winners were Jenny Wadeley and Claire Helfrich on 4+19.

Gina George and Nossie Patterson won the second session on 2+10; runners-up were Sandy Davis and Sandy O’Donoghue, who scored 4+13.

The men’s winners, Dave Arnison and Mike Carr, scored 4+14.

Six shots behind them were runners-up Alistair Shaw and Johan Burger, while Kevin O’Donoghue and Tony Hoggins took the second session prize, scoring 2+8.

Sezela Bowling Club president Gaynor Symons was recently selected to play for one of the Kingfisher Bowling Association district teams.

Illovo Sugar, Pennington Superette and the Bell and Anchor Restaurant were the sponsors of both competitions and their continued support is much appreciated.

Gaynor Symons, Jerry Davey, Sandy O’Donoghue and Malcolm Swanby make up Sezela’s team competing in the KBA mixed fours playing their first round at Port Shepstone on November 2.

A big welcome to new members Herbie Beverley, Alison Carr, Lily Herregods, Ted Moffet, Brian Kidd and Nossie Patterson.

Sezela wish you good bowling and a long and happy stay.

John Aldhouse has joined the executive of the Sezela committee, having accepted nomination as treasurer, which is nothing new to him as he held this position prior to Dave Geils.

He is already hard at work managing our finances and is reminded that Fun Friday and Paul Jones bowling events are still part his portfolio, talk about flogging a willing horse.

Last week’s Fun Friday bowls afternoon was well supported, attracting 32 plus bowlers with only four rinks available, our croquet section having to use half a green.

The overflow of bowlers played croquet or hung around for the ‘Gina Grub’ to be served. Another great day in Africa thanks to Gina Lane’s catering team and member support.

Annual green maintenance, as at most bowling clubs this time of the year, has cut our competitions entry down to a maximum of only 14 teams so we will do our best to rotate teams in the various competitions.

Sezela supported last week’s Nomads day at Scottburgh, where president, Alistair Shaw, thanked his members for their efforts in donating food and clothing to a local charity.

Jerry Davey arrived looking very smart in his Nomads shirt but was wearing odd shoes, luckily they were not both for his left foot.

Sezela will host the next event on November 17, all bowlers and visitors welcome. Jerry please check your attire before arrival.

Tony Beukes, Mickey Morrison and Roy Jack are all on the sick list and we wish them a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing them at the club soon.
