Herald Fishing: Rock and surf fishing abuzz
Crayfish season closes tomorrow and will reopen on March 1 next year.

Mother nature is starting to become more stable with the north-easterly winds and the sea kind of behaving itself, the time for targeting summer species on the boat and from the side has come.
With some better weather and some incredible catches, this past week was definitely one to wet a line. The rock and surf scene has been buzzing with the summer fish.

All that is being spoken about is the arrival of the sandies, diamonds or the raggies. The south has been (as always) a combination of edibles and inedibles.
Most of this area has produced the smaller rockfish such as stone bream and bronze bream.
Kob still on the bite. Mainly feeding on live bait and lures such as paddle tails and rapalas.

Reports of some decent bass being caught and released.
The offshore fishing is still going a bit slowly but the summer fish are starting to make an appearance, with a few dorado already boated. The bass are in full spring/summer mode and are feeding with proper vigour. If the early morning or late afternoon is warm enough, try your hand at some top water action.
Tight lines and screaming reels.
