Surfing showdown for coast

It's one of the highlights on the surfing calendar.

Surfers from four districts will fight it out for the respective title in 15 different divisions when the KwaZulu-Natal Surfing Championships gets underway at St Mike’s this weekend.

The competition will be surfed over two days, Saturday and Sunday.

The four districts are King Cetshwayo (Zululand), Ilembe (North Coast), Ethekwini (Durban) and Ugu (South Coast).

A total of 140 surfers are expected to take on the waves in divisions from U10 to U18 in both girls and boys divisions, in the juniors.

When it comes to the seniors, divisions comprise open, masters, grand masters and legends.

Hurricane Surf is on board as main sponsor again this year, offering some big prize-money for the main events.

Wild Leather Co is sponsoring the main event in the juniors.

All other divisions are sponsored or supported with prizes from local businesses.

It is a huge endeavour to put an event like this together and without the help of locals and their businesses this would not be possible.

Thanks were extended to all the sponsors who have supported this event.
