Herald Fishing: Putting in the time yields rewards

There have been some absolutely amazing fish hooked and landed during the past week and some monsters lost.

The dorado are here! There have been plenty of these fish around, but sizes have been a bit small. The tuna are still on the bait marks and the ambers are breaking tackle

Summer is properly here and both shore-based and boat-based anglers are rejoicing in the fast-paced action that is expected this time of year.

The summer fish have arrived with a gigantic bang. There have been some absolutely amazing fish hooked and landed during the past week and some monsters lost.

If you haven’t seen your backing in a while, now is the time to make sure it is still okay.

Many large fish have been hooked in the past week, some have been unstoppable so make sure you double check your knots and that you and your tackle are up to scratch.

Most anglers putting the time in are returning with a few fish in the hatch.

Taking advantage of the perfect weather to go fishing on the ski just off Banana Beach, Bryan D’Alton from Sunwich Port was thrilled to catch this dorado.

The south has also produced its fair share of inedibles for guys targeting them.

Anglers have reported good catches of kob at most of the river mouths. These fish have fallen for paddletails more than they have for bait.

Other species coming out have included shad (ranging from the usual small tiddlers to 4kg giants), pompano and bronze bream.

Garrick are still around for those in pursuit of the gentleman fighter.

Reports of a lot of shad being caught and some decent sizes have been landed.

Sandies have been wild at certain deep-water points and reports have been that they are eating redeye baits with a lot more vigour than anything else.

Anglers fishing at Splash Rock in Port Edward have been catching a lot of different species and lots of fish were landed and released.

Most have been caught on lures in the past week as opposed to live bait, but it is always a good idea to throw a plug in the area of your live bait.
